Business Insider is looking for a fellow to join our creative department to edit photos, help source images, and ensure quality photo selections across our stories.

The Displaced Journalists Fellowship Program is for mid-career journalists who have been forced to leave their home countries due to conflicts. This one-year fellowship has been assigned to the creative department, and this paid role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Candidates can work remotely, but must currently be living in the US and have a work permit.

The Role & Team:
Our photo team works collaboratively with the newsroom to help elevate all of our visuals and make Business Insider known for our impactful visual storytelling.
At Business Insider, a photo editor wields significant influence by curating visuals that not only enhance storytelling but also shape the publication's brand identity. Their role is crucial in ensuring that images are both compelling and accurate, which directly impacts reader engagement and overall content quality.
The role will encompass a wide range of daily assignments and responsibilities, including assisting and editing support for day to day stories and larger features, as well as helping with quality control on selecting the best images for our daily stories, homepage, newsletters, breaking news, and events.
The fellow will also assist with placing imagery on our site, and fulfilling in-house image requests from the newsroom. They will also regularly help reporters find great images for their stories both through our wires and assist the legal team to ensure that image sources are licensed properly.
This role reports to the Senior Art Director and is part of the creative department.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all photos for curated portions of the homepage, key landing pages and newsletters Prioritize image swaps for constant real-time improvement along with focusing on our newsletters Create daily photo boards for editors, highlighting on key news topics of the day Source and research for stories, especially larger features Assist the team in finding freelance photographers and coordinating with themThe Ideal Candidate Has:
3-4 years of photo editing experience in a newsroom Demonstrable knowledge of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop Mac proficiency Excellent photo research skills, and knowledge of Creative Commons Licensing and resources (Specifically with Getty, AP, Reuters, etc.) Previous experience working in a CMS A passion for photojournalism and visual storytelling The ability to think creatively, conceptually, and collaboratively The ability to work well under tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects at a time Knowledge of the industry, and is excited to help us build our freelance photography network Excellent communication skills with teammates and senior editorsAdditionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:
