Job Description
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Human Factors/Display Specialist is a human factors trained professional who is responsible for assuring the usability of operations products (displays and procedures) designed by International Space Station (ISS) users to service payload science investigations. This position reviews and evaluates payload application software graphical user interfaces (GUIs), prepares and distributes iterative product design review reports, plans and conducts usability verification tests as required, prepares test reports, tracks usability-related issues and prepares and submits flight candidate crew display products for final baseline and flight certification. Candidate will perform software UI requirements applicability assessments and respond to ISS User requests for support during program design reviews and as required throughout the product development phase. This position reviews other payload operations products while working closely with POI and JSC representatives to ensure optimal interoperability of payload displays and procedures.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in human factors, psychology, engineering, science or a related field of study.Preferred candidate will have two (2) plus years of experience in design support of software display interfaces, human factors, and UI design orientation and UI product evaluation.Knowledge and Skills Required
Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate ISS program display and graphics commonality standards to developer-unique user interface designs.Knowledge of human factors in space.Familiarity with ISS microgravity science, objectives, technologies and trends.User-centered design principles.Usability standards per ISO 9241; usability testing and evaluation; test reporting.Familiarity with current/emerging display architectures, including laptop computer, touchscreen, tablet, Smartphone, LCD/LED/OLED front panel; and wearables (incl. VR/AR);Familiarity with current commercial operating systems design standards including Apple iOS Human Interface Guidelines, Google Android User Interface, Linux.Display prototypingMicrosoft Office (Word/Powerpoint/Excel)Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.Motivated; able to work both independently and in a team setting.Ability to apply a defined set of processes and work to a product integration milestone schedule.Limited travel requirement
