The Distillate Trader  will develop and execute discretionary distillate trading opportunities within both hedge and spec books to optimize assets while adding incremental value.

 

Responsibilities May Include

Participating within the Global Distillate Trading Team (including Global ULSD, Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, East Coast) to evaluate and pursue trading opportunities.  Developing a comprehensive understanding of internal and external distillate production & consumption requirements as well as arbitrage capture economics.  Expressing market view/taking risk via speculative derivative instruments including basis swaps.  Coordinating with various Phillips 66 refinery planners & personnel to understand potential Phillips 66 refinery optionality to maximize netback to various domestic and foreign distillate markets.  Maximizing trading revenue by adding value to Phillips 66 clean product trading opportunities.  Developing a detailed understanding of pricing methods, liquid financial instruments, and managing risk.  Establishing market views and positions to extract discretionary value from market. Negotiate term and spot contracts at multiple locations  Capturing storage and arbitrage opportunities. Enter and maintain contracts in SAP.

 
Required Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country Bachelor’s degree Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 10 or more years of trading experience
 

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of pipeline and waterborne scheduling Broad understanding of the transportation and logistics business, including marine logistics, pipeline logistics, and chartering Track record of developing trading strategies based upon fundamentals/market views and translating said strategies into profitable trades. Flexible; able to reassess market conditions and adjust market views and positions Good social skills; comfortable in working with external and internal entities Understanding of refining optimization; experience working within a refining system  An understanding of broader commodity markets (Crude, Gasoline, Distillates, Freight, NGLs, Natural Gas) High degree of collaborative skills. Ability to develop, lead and actively participate on cross functional teams High degree of initiative, works proactively to anticipate needs Excellent written, oral communication, inter-personal and presentation skills High degree of collaborative skills; ability to develop, lead and actively participate on teams Strong communication skills, both verbal and written to ensure clarity and common understanding Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills Ability to adapt to quickly evolving requirements Proactive in problem identification and resolution, can provide creative solutions to complex issues High degree of ethics, personal drive, and dedication to achieve team goals and general interest objectives
 

The Commercial organization  works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.   Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations.  Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
