Job DescriptionAECOM has a position available for a Distributed Energy Resources Lead
to oversee and grow our talented team of solar engineers and microgrid solutions architects within the Energy practice Engineering Center of Excellence. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, etc.).
We are looking for an up-and-coming leader with a technical diverse background in distributed energy solutions to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our deep existing client base.
Qualified candidates will have a strong background in engineering coupled with experience developing teams and keen interest in leading tasks on projects.
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Support Director of Engineering strategic resourcing and recruiting initiatives
Develop, Grow and Supervise a team of diverse engineers through the completion of utility scale renewable projects, microgrid solutions and other distributed energy pursuits
Develop dynamic culture fostering creative thinking and technical development
Lead by example in engineering execution functioning as technical lead and engineer of record on all size projects
Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)
Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings including those requiring occasional travel
Collaborate with multi-discipline technical leads to integrate mechanical energy generation assets for full spectrum distributed energy client solutions
Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for engineering work activities
Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable and decentralized energy projects
Providing input to management on project resourcing and staff forecasting needs
Monitoring your teams project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects
Level specific responsibilities:
Serves as lead engineer and Engineer of Record on mid- to large size projects
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
Approves and signs off on work
Provides technical expertise and able to present complex technical solutions to clients
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
Participates in development of technical proposals.
Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS (Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering preferred) from ABET accredited university
8+ years of relevant experience
Experience must include design and integration of utility-scale renewable and battery storage systems coupled with leadership experience
Current professional engineering license (PE)
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum four (4) years of leadership/supervisory experience preferred
12+ years of relevant experience preferred
Highly Proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel desired
Experience with other software in the industry such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, Helioscope, Homer, ETAP, WindPRO
Capable of system financial estimation (Capex, Opex), PPA recommendation and calculating ROI
Proficient in MV AC Collection System Design
Special design experience: floating PV, offshore wind, fly wheel battery systems
Proficient with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855
Deep knowledge of utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP etc.).
Interest in developing talented technical teams
Able to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
