Responsible for supply chain management functions as it relates to warehousing and distribution working closely with procurement, customer service, and production/merchandise planning and leads all warehouse operations to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction. Provides ongoing direction to third party providers of mixing and distribution centers to deliver against agreed upon key performance measures; manages and directs all distribution functions at the DC to include budgetary management, labor scheduling, day to day operations, order management and proper handling / rotation of inventories.

Core ResponsibilitiesManages and directs all distribution / warehouse activities along with the day to day operations of the Distribution Center to meet the needs of the business.Develops and implement policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency at the distribution center, plants and 3rd party warehouses.Manages DC personnel including scheduling labor to maximize productivities and manages to volume fluctuations.Responsible for ensuring accurate stock levels and inventory at the distribution centers. Coordinates with production schedulers to minimize stock outages and stock transfers.  Manages proper rotation to minimize out of code date inventory.Works with the distribution center, plants and 3rd party warehouses to control cost and manage warehouse space.Directs all loading, unloading and storage of Smithfield products within the distribution center, plants and 3rd party warehouses to ensure activities are completed in the least-cost method.Provides sales and production scheduling with pertinent information related to inventory at the distribution center and 3rd party warehouses.Adheres to all government / occupational safety and food safety requirements and guidelines; ensures site compliance with and exceeds independent food safety audits conducted by third party industry recognized Food Safety Auditors; complies with requirements to maintain facility as a USDA inspected site. Meets or exceeds all quality control standards as defined by QA; adheres to QA food quality guidelines.Maintains working environment that provides for safety, health and welfare of warehouse / DC personnel, visitors. Accountable for ensuring the proper pest control of the facility inclusive of outside contractors.Oversees the management of functional activities inside the Distribution Center to include receiving, shipping, put away, case picking, pallet picking, inventory control, inventory rotation and trailer yard activities.Identifies and implements opportunities to improve current methods utilized in the Distribution Center and implements tools available in the WMS to improve processes.Implements KPI’s and manages productivity standards and operational procedures to meet business needs and KPIs.Works with Operations, Deployment, Customer Service, Transportation and technical team to meet established customer service levels for all customers serviced from the Distribution Center.Develops, manages and meets budgetary requirements and expenses for facility as directed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years’ experience in DC management; or equivalent combination of education and experience, requiredMinimum of 2+ years’ experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.Experience working with dedicated transportation fleets for proper service to external and internal customers.Ability to implement and maintain proper employee safety programs / processes.Knowledge of meat industry, preferred.Solid understanding of OSHA, USDA and Food Safety regulations.Ability to use exposure monitoring equipment, interpret and communicate results.Experience with SAP, WMS computer systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills required.Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership and guidance to employees in the Distribution Center.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.

The DC environment will include extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical equipment such as forklifts/hi-lifts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the loading areas.Frequently required to move and/or lift 50 pounds and occasionally required to move and/or lift more than 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
