Distribution Design Engineer
Job Title: Distribution Designer
Job Description

We are seeking a Distribution Designer to design, route, test, and specify materials for natural gas distribution mains up to 30 inches in diameter. This role involves utilizing AutoCAD and GIS programs while ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards. You will support multiple projects simultaneously, coordinate with various internal and external departments, and ensure quality control of drawings. Field site inspections are also part of the job to support Field Operations and Construction Operations teams.

ResponsibilitiesDesign and route natural gas distribution mains up to 30 inches in diameter.Utilize AutoCAD and GIS programs regularly.Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.Support multiple projects simultaneously and adhere to tight deadlines.Coordinate with various internal and external departments.Maintain accuracy of drawing database through quality control of drawings.Travel to field sites for inspections and support Field Operations and Construction Operations teams.Perform field engineering tasks such as taking measurements, noting equipment, and observing project installation and commissioning.Essential SkillsProficient in AutoCAD.Strong interpersonal communication skills.Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or similar.Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred.At least an internship or up to three years of experience (internship required).Experience with utility design, gas pipelines, and distribution design.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in mechanical design and utility relocation.Knowledge of underground utilities, civil design, power delivery, and power distribution.Desire to work in a collaborative and well-rounded environment.Reliable form of transportation for travel to sites and projects.Work Environment

The workplace is a natural gas distribution company serving over two million customers in northern Illinois, excluding Chicago. The headquarters is located in Naperville, IL, with a flexible working schedule generally from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Employees work in the office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and have the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The engineering team consists of 25-30 people, and the environment is steady, stable, and collaborative. Each candidate will have their own cubicle and computer, working under the supervision of senior engineers. Reliable transportation is required for site travel, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $31.25/hr.
