Overview The Designer IV will be the lead designer responsible to provide direction, training, supervision, and guidance of other design staff of equal or lower grade as directed by supervisor. The Distribution Designer IV will also perform field data collection, detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems and back-office work to support those functions. This work includes gathering field data for designs, entering the information into various programs and the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications and estimates as defined by the client’s scope of work documen Responsibilities Key Responsibilities (Duties): • Independently perform and act as a lead for a variety of design related duties including but not limited to the following: Design and prepare independently, construction orders related to overhead, underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications, and procedures. Gather equipment information in the field for design using a variety of tools including IKE Office, Katapult and a Hastings Stick. Preparation of field notes and design using a variety of data collection tools including SPIDAcalc and other client tools. Transfer field notes to a structural design and contribute to the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, evaluation, and requisitions. Preparation of computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors. Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards covering the assigned work. Preparation of engineering calculations (pole loading, guying, transformer sizing, conductor loading / sagging, load studies, voltage studies). Coordinate design development to meet project schedules. • Provide training and technical support for other distribution design classifications. Analyze system processes and offer improvements based on client requirements. Lead teams of other distribution designer personnel. Serve as the contact to support proactive communication between the client and TRC. • Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines. • Perform other duties as assigned. Core Competencies: Safety Follow Code of Safe Practices as outlined in the company safety policies. Possess the working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements specific to the individual’s job responsibility. Responsible to maintain a safe and healthful place of work. Responsible for your own safety. This includes inspecting your own workplace on a daily basis and promptly reporting unsafe/unhealthful conditions to the PM/Supervisor. Report all work-related injury or illness, however slight, to management. Make recommendations for a safer workplace and/or work practices. Technical Understanding Analytical competence to interact with variety of individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers. Possess a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility constructions standards, and best industry engineering practices. Knowledge of field gathering tools use. Quality Responsible for the quality of your individual work. Responsible for meeting the quality requirements as outlined in the client contract. Understand the processes and controls in place to make sure that your work fulfills those requirements. Self-check all work and check the work of others as required. Travel Requirements Travel is primarily local to the client and project during the business day, although some out of the area and overnight travel may be expected. Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications: Experience Ten (10) year of progressive development as a Distribution Designer or equivalent. Additional client specific requirements may apply. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Additional client specific requirements may apply. Required Skills Thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures pertaining to technical matters in Electrical Distribution Design. Working knowledge of the practices and procedures pertaining to the technical matters in one or more of the following: Distribution Engineering GIS CADD Proficient use and knowledge of computers and software applications desired (MS Office products) Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications are not required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for the position. Education Associate Degree in Engineering preferred. DEG Management may consider other education and work experience to be acceptable for appointment to this position. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors. Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
