Distribution Engineer
Job Title: Electrical Engineer - High Voltage Transmission and Distribution Job Description Under the general supervision of the High Voltage Transmission and Distribution System Manager, support and assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the electrical transmission and distribution system. The engineer provides technical and field troubleshooting guidance to field personnel and manages the current maintenance program. Responsibilities include performing walk-downs to collect data to modify existing studies, providing technical and troubleshooting support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities, and evaluating existing systems to propose upgrades for enhanced efficiency, reliability, and safety. Additional duties involve reviewing engineering specifications, drawings, and technical documents, conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role also entails responding promptly to high voltage electrical disturbances, documenting work performed, participating in training sessions and drills, and complying with all Laboratory and Division Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) policies. Hard Skills + Experience with SKM modeling and running reports + Power distribution and system operation experience + Maintenance and operating experience with electrical power equipment (e.g., switchgears, transformers, power panels) + Ability to run maintenance and operating tests and evaluate results + Developing maintenance-based tasks for system input + 5+ years experience working in substation systems + BS Degree in Electrical Systems or similar Soft Skills + Technical and troubleshooting guidance + Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders + Adaptability to advancements in electrical engineering technologies + Prompt response to emergencies and disturbances + Record-keeping and documentation Job Type This is a contract position with a duration of 12+ Month(s), with the option for annual renewal, Work Site This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in LEMONT, Illinois and some days remote. Work Environment The role requires 70% field work and 30% office work. The position follows a standard Monday through Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PM schedule.
