Job DescriptionPay Rate: $27.72 to $29.11 per hour.

Position Purpose:
Under direction performs varied tasks in the inspection of water installations to locate malfunctioning units; does related work as required.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Travels throughout the service territory to locate, inspect, test and operate fire hydrants, water service line valves, system valves, water meters, and other appurtenances. Make repairs as needed. Utilizes GIS/GPS and paper plan book drawings to determine proper operation.Inspects water service repairs to determine if work is done in compliance with local ordinances.Tests water flow for proper pressure and fire flow requirements.Makes special inspections of water meters and/or water service facilities when complaints are received.Make inspections of water service installations and make suitable recommendations as to findings and to keep routine records.Makes recommendations as to the proper action to be taken and prepares routine reports.Keeps needed records as required by United Water Jersey City.Utilizes mobile PC Computers for the purpose of record keeping, daily work sheet logs, and mapping and system information updates. This will include GIS / GPS operations.Operations of computerized equipment such as needed to perform work including GPS location devices.Resolving informal complaints of residents &, referring serious matters to the supervisor.Overseeing the completion of individual jobs and requests from customers and outside contractors.Must participate in emergency stand-by rotation and must respond to the job site within one hour of notification.Performs similar or less skilled work as assigned.Assists employees of a higher classification as assigned.Work Environment:
May be assigned Night Inspector 3:30pm-12:30am Monday- Friday.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.Has the ability to work as a stand-by leader.Strong computer skills.Ability to work in emergency situations and remain on the job until repairs have been made.Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator’s licenses.Physical Requirements:
