Distribution Planner
Job Title: Distribution PlannerJob Description As part of the Storm Protection Plan (SPP), our organization is in the process of building a Self-Optimizing Grid (SOG). The objectives of the SOG Program are to improve distribution system reliability and limit the number of unserved customers during sustained outages. Implementing the SOG Program requires the deployment of automated switching devices (ASDs) and the completion of necessary capacity upgrades across our distribution system. The feeder automation for the SOG Program is currently being deployed in feeder teams, or SOG Teams. Responsibilities + Validate CYME models and allocate load for the team. + Propose new ASDs to segment the circuits according to the SOG Application Guide. + Perform load flow and short circuit analysis, including normal configuration and contingency analysis. + Propose recommendations to resolve circuit load imbalances, overloads, over/under voltages, and VAR needs. + Identify equipment or capacity upgrade recommendations based on analysis. + Run Planning and Protection meetings with Zone Planners and DPAC engineers, presenting analysis results for each team. + Apply the SOG Application Guide, Rev 1. + Apply the DEF SOG Analysis Process. + Conduct CYMDIST Analysis, including the creation and saving of CYME models. + Create and/or reference relay settings files for all proposed ASDs. + Collect data utilizing standard tools (FMS, PI, FLAP, GE DORA, AcSELerator). Essential Skills + Must be an ABET accredited engineer. + Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. + Experience with CYMdist, CYME, ETAP, Synergi, or similar software for load flow analysis. + Knowledge of relay settings, circuit protection, voltage, feeder automation, and capacity upgrades. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Strong working knowledge of CYMDIST for simulations including Load Allocation, Load Flow, Load Balancing, and Fault Analysis. + Ability to create and validate SOG schematics. + Proficiency in extracting peak load data from various databases (FLAP, PI, etc.). + Experience with Duke Energy standards for relay settings and documentation. Work Environment This is a remote opportunity supporting the Self-Optimizing Grid team. One week of required on-site training will be provided on the SOG Application Guide and the DEF SOG Analysis Process. The primary tool for planning and engineering analysis tasks is CYMDIST, with the team currently using version 9.0r5. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
