Distribution Planning – Engineer
Description
This position is responsible for conducting and evaluating planning studies on the Georgia Power distribution system to meet the needs of our customers. The successful candidate will exhibit knowledge of utility electric power system data and modeling, lead solution teams and the development of project solutions This role interfaces with cross-functional groups within Georgia Power Company to develop long term solutions. These solutions will need to be forward-looking and cost effective as we shape our grid of the future to include Grid Investment and integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER). This position is part of a hybrid work environment and will primarily work in the Metro Atlanta area or Central Georgia (Macon/Columbus areas).

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required - Electrical preferred, but other areas may be acceptable with proper experience.Experience Requirements
5-7 years of engineering experience in distribution planning, design, maintenance, or operation of the distribution system required.Skills Abilities
Computer programming skills with knowledge of Python, Power BI, Visual Basic and Microsoft Office applications is a plus. Knowledge of power flow analysis software and distribution planning analysis is required (examples: CYME, Synergi) Knowledge of new technologies including but not limited to photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage is a plus. Proven effective interpersonal, analytical, communication, teamwork, negotiation, and presentation skills Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Effective at building relationships with cross functional teams with a strong customer focus Ability to work under deadlines to respond to customer demands Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete multiple tasks Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings and preparing reports.
Responsibilities:
Perform and coordinate feeder analysis studies to ensure adequate capacity and voltage on our feeders. Partner with other departments (Distribution Engineering, Area Planning, Reliability, Customer Choice, etc.) to develop and present forward thinking solutions to upper-level management. Oversight of capital projects (feeder additions and reconductors) for a distribution area. Evaluation of large load projects to assess impacts on the distribution system and assist in determining the method of service. Support of special projects to shape Grid Investment, DER integration, etc. into the distribution system
