Job Description: District Accountant
Waste Connections of Canada is looking for a safety inclined, energetic, autonomous, and proactive team player who is capable of making a difference in his/her team and community. We have an immediate opening for a District Accountant for our R360 District, Calgary, AB.
As a District Accountant at R360, you will be involved with every piece of the accounting cycle. You will support the District Controller in daily accounting tasks in addition to monthly reporting and special projects.
You will interact with employees from all aspects of the business including Operations, Sales, Dispatch, Customer Service, and Maintenance. Your success within the role is reliant on an ambitious work ethic, excellent communication and the ability to problem-solve. The key to Waste Connections’ continued growth and success is sourcing, developing, and promoting individuals who meet these expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate month-end district close process including billing, accounts payable, and preparing key journal entriesPrepare monthly operational and financial reports used for month end and forecast analysisAssist the Controller in annual budget preparationsPerform cash reconciliations for various payment types including bank reconciliation, intercompany cash payments, and internet bank paymentsPrepare district quarterly and annual reporting packages, including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and analysis of key balance sheet sectionsCo-ordinate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as well as other departments involved in admin processes to ensure sound full cycle accounting processReconcile accounts payable as well as accounts receivable balances as neededAssist in annual greenhouse gas emissions reportingAct as a backup for cash entry and accounts payable.Participate in implementing and maintaining internal control and reporting processesQualifications:
Minimum 2 years of accounting experienceBachelor's degree, Business or Accounting PreferredExcellent written and interpersonal communication skillsHighly organized with attention to detailAbility to meet tight deadlines and navigate multiple prioritiesIntermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel A MUST and related accounting business systemsWhat’s In It for You?
