District Manager

The district manager is to oversee operations of assigned stores. The district manager is the immediate supervisor of the store managers and works closely with them to ensure that each store is a profit center, shows good sales growth, and follows all policies and procedures aimed at our company operating in the most economical and efficient way. He/she has full authority to make the managers accountable and will be required to report reoccurring operational problems to company management for appropriate action.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate weekly outside sales call schedule of store manager and any salesmen in the district, as well as reviewing monthly call summary. Make sales calls with store manager as needed. Ensure all team members are properly trained and provide friendly, professional service to all customers. This would include the addition and implementation of installer service specialists and counters where deemed appropriate. Ensure all stores participate in and support retail programs and sales promotions.

Implement/enforce use of new and/or on-going customer service programs, i.e., Hi-5, Dialing for Dollars, Image Maker, Price Low/Sell High, Related Sales, Low Price Guarantee, weekend customer service huddles, etc. Utilize the You Rock Program to recognize and award Box 4 performers.

Store operational performance procedures are audited on the District Manager Monthly Game Plans, Semi-Annual Check Sheet, and the weekly M.A.P. These ensure the store is operating at an efficient level and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Assist manager in working with the Sales and Pricing Departments in establishing installer customer pricing along with appropriate walk-in pricing. Pricing should be customized so O’Reilly Auto Parts is competitive, but always maximizes the profit opportunity for that particular market. Closely manage noncompetitive price overrides and price matches to ensure validity and maximum profitability.

Many store operational procedures are coordinated with DC/office procedures to ensure maximum corporate profitability. Serve as a liaison between stores and DC/office management to solve any problems that may occur.

Assist manager in organizing management communications and tasks, such as the Team Weekly, To Do List, Price Bulletin, e-mail, etc., to ensure all directions are implemented within the allotted time frame. The district manager will be notified of communication issues as well as compliance problems in the stores and is to promptly follow up and solve them from an organizational standpoint. Prompt communications via notes, e-mail, worksheets, replies, etc., is essential to store operations.

Assist store manager in scheduling to provide the right amount of help at the right time. Store Payroll Percentages are to be evaluated daily, biweekly and at month-end to ensure store profitability and productivity are at acceptable levels.

Responsible for the hiring and dismissal process and performance evaluations for all team members in district. Work closely with and support Human Resources Department in properly handling personnel matters. Reduce team member turnover and increase productivity by usage of Hiring Guidelines, store training programs (Right Track, LMS, Assistant Manager Certification, Store Manager Development, etc.) and Career Development Discussion Program. Promotion of the O’Reilly culture through direct interaction with store team members.

Responsible for ensuring all store team members are properly oriented and trained to perform their jobs through use of LMS, Right Track Training, etc. Must make sure a Training and Safety Coordinator is in place and fully trained at all stores. Responsible for minimizing team member accidents and related expenses. Team member safety is a high priority.

Assist store manager in establishing proper and consistent in-store merchandising procedures to ensure all planograms, To Do List items, and pricing are current.

All areas of store (internal and external) must be maintained at satisfactory levels as outlined on Image Maker, Monthly Follow-Up, and Monthly and Semi-Annual Performance Reviews.

Monthly stock adjustments, recalls, overstock removal, and routine inventory maintenance must be handled by store in allotted time frame. In-store inventory control procedures such as stock orders, backorders, return and core procedures, and any situation that might result in inventory errors, are to be evaluated regularly by the district manager. Work with Inventory Control Department and store manager to maximize inventory turnover while maintaining adequate coverage.

Oversee and assist manager, as needed, with credit and collections and ensuring company credit policies are followed. Communicate and work with credit manager, sales department and manager to correct problems in collection efforts.

Ensure stores are operated in compliance with all security policies/procedures to establish accountability for inventory accuracy, cash overages/shortages, daily deposits, invoice control, etc. Good internal security is based on sound operating procedures, cash handling, and ensuring management and team members are aware of and involved in

loss prevention, including the prevention of shoplifting.

All buildings and delivery vehicles are to be secured at closing and have adequate lighting.

Ensure all minor repairs are made in a timely manner and all service work is completed when due. This is verified through the use of the Quarterly Vehicle Inspection Sheet, which must be accurately filled out and turned in to the regional assistant for tracking. The regional manager should be consulted on major repairs, and/or needed truck replacements.

Conduct Store Managers’ Meetings as needed and following Corporate RM Conference Calls/Meeting as directed. Communication and instructions conveyed during these meetings are vital. DMs and RMs must answer questions whenever possible, and research and respond to those they cannot immediately answer.

Spend a minimum of one day every three weeks in each of the stores in the district in order to handle all of these duties and complete the performance reviews. Include brief account of these regular calls on Monthly Call/Expense Report. Submit schedule for the upcoming week to the regional assistant by no later than Friday and include this information on voice mail greeting each day.

SKILLS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES

Required:

Minimum one year experience in O’Reilly field store operations at the manager level.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Manager Development Program module.
