Position Overview:
The District Manager (DM) is responsible for overseeing multiple store locations within an assigned district, driving operational excellence, maximizing sales, and ensuring outstanding customer service. This role involves leading and developing store managers, optimizing financial performance, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The DM serves as the key liaison between corporate leadership and store teams, ensuring alignment with company goals and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Sales Growth
Maximize store sales through superior customer service, effective merchandising, and a high-standard store image inside and out.
Analyze sales trends, competitive insights, and promotional performance to identify growth opportunities.
Collaborate with marketing and category management teams to ensure full implementation of promotions and new product rollouts.
Financial & Cost Management
Monitor and control key expense lines, including merchandise variation, salaries, overtime, cash handling, and maintenance costs.
Ensure profitable store operations by managing controllable expenses and optimizing financial performance across locations.
Assist in budget forecasting, variance analysis, and implementing corrective actions to achieve financial objectives.
People & Talent Development
Lead and mentor store managers in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
Foster employee growth through coaching, feedback, and structured development plans.
Establish job expectations, set clear goals, and provide support to improve store-level leadership.
Compliance & Safety Management
Ensure adherence to company policies, operational procedures, and government regulations.
Oversee restricted sales compliance and escalate issues requiring corrective action.
Maintain a safe and secure work environment for employees and customers through proper safety training and enforcement of best practices.
Vendor & Inventory Management
Partner with vendors to ensure consistent product availability and timely execution of promotions.
Monitor vendor performance to maintain professionalism and service quality.
Address inventory concerns and provide feedback to category managers on stock levels.
Strategic Execution & Communication
Serve as the primary connection between store teams and corporate leadership.
Provide clear communication and direction on business priorities, initiatives, and expectations.
Recap promotional activities, competitive insights, and store performance to leadership.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Experience: 3-5 years of multi-unit retail management experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Skills & Abilities:
Proven ability to drive sales and profitability across multiple locations.
Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to analyze financial reports, control costs, and execute strategic initiatives.
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel (up to 50%).
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to sit, talk, and hear regularly.
Frequent handling and grasping of items of varying weight.
Occasional lifting (up to 60 lbs.), pushing/pulling (up to 20 lbs.), and climbing ladders.
Work includes exposure to moderate noise levels and temperature variations, including refrigerated storage areas.
