This role is under the direction of the Field Supervisor and performs routine maintenance of all equipment and vehicles, in addition to general labor duties including by not limited to facility maintenance and groundskeeping. The Division Wide Laborer assists the Distribution and Water Treatment Technicians in their respective job duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs routine maintenance of all equipment and vehicles including backhoes; trucks; pumps; motors; water treatment equipment; pavement and rock breakers; tampers; compressors; tapping and rodding machines; boring and pushing equipment; including grease and oiling pumps and motors and such other equipment and vehicles as the Company may have or acquire.Performs a variety of meter-related activities including meter reading and installation of meters, meter housings, and the repair and maintenance of meter housingsHangs notifications cards and other notices required to inform customers of the company’s operation.Collects water samples throughout the distribution system and at all plant and pumping facilities.Performs grounds keeping and grass cutting over mains, services and other areas in and around all Aqua Illinois, Inc. facilities including all restoration work. Paints facilities and hydrants as needed.Turns off and on customer’s service in the field as directed.Performs minor repairs of Curb Boxes.Performs minor maintenance of hydrants and hydrant flushing.Assists with valve operations throughout the distribution system and at all plant and pumping facilities.Controls traffic for crews working on the systems.Cleans all basins at the Water Treatment Plant.Loads, unloads, and orders various equipment and supplies at work site or storage areas.Makes measurements and completes surveys as required for proper record keeping.Inspects, tests, and updates and maintains records of inspections and tests of system and appurtenances.Performs the duties listed above in a safe manner following IEPA, OSHA, IDOT, USDOT, Company and any other applicable safety related rules and regulations.Assists with other tasks or projects as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma,/GEDA valid U.S. Driver’s LicenseMust obtain a Class A CDL license within 6 months of employmentMust pass DOT Physical during the pre-employment processMust obtain a Class D water license by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency within 12 monthsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understand computers / tablets and the basic operation of database, spreadsheet and word processing programs preferred Familiarity with and understanding of the proper use of various tools and instruments associated with the workExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in writing Ability to readily read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions both written and verbal Familiarity with and understanding of the need to prevent wastewater pollution of area watersUnderstand and maintain plant processes through computer-controlled equipmentA team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environmentAbility to prioritize assigned dutiesWORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
