Overview This position contributes to REI’s success by leading all aspects of global logistics operations, focused on enabling revenue growth, margin improvement, and differentiated customer experiences. This is the senior leader accountable for developing and deploying transportation and logistics strategy along with change management and organizational adoption to make it stick. This DVP will develop the logistics strategy ahead of the curve to align with future distribution network expansion, and future innovation in multi-channel commercial models. They will lead logistics and transportation operations for the Co-op, ensuring seamless movement of goods from suppliers to distribution centers (DCs), stores, and customers. This role demands strategic oversight of domestic and international logistics including multiple deconsolidation and consolidation points, inter-DC transfers, and direct-to-customer deliveries, optimizing efficiency and ensuring high service levels across all channels. Facilitating the movement of millions of parcels annually through the supply chain, this role is focused on driving exceptional service, operational scalability and efficiency to support business growth. It emphasizes optimizing resources and implementing innovative strategies that enable sustainable expansion while maintaining alignment with financial objectives and operational benchmarks. Continuous process improvement leadership will be focused on Retail Stores and DTC service improvements including meeting or exceeding lead-time performance benchmarks and service level agreements (SLA). This leader leads the transformation of processes to mirror those of the best ‘big box’ companies while focusing on customer outcomes that provide a competitively differentiated specialty retailer experience. Leading the Trade Compliance group is a key component of accountability ensuring management of the growing complexity involved with international sourcing, assuring fair labor practices in accordance with REI’s social impact goals, and maximized financial benefit from FTZ status. This role will partner with other senior leaders in the Supply to develop true end-to-end solutions and collaborates with leaders in Finance, Retail, Digital, Marketing, and IT to represent Distribution Operations in cross-divisional business solutions. This leader co-owns the creation and deployment of the Global Logistics IT roadmap in partnership with the IT, Supply Chain, and Distribution Operations Leadership. This DVP will be a role model and act in accordance with REI’s mission and ‘The Co-op Way’ values. Responsibilities and Qualifications Leading the Way As a member of the Leadership Forum, develops a deep understanding of, effectively communicates and broadly supports execution of company strategies and priorities. Translates company strategies into actionable divisional plans and executes successful delivery. Works cross-divisionally to drive execution of specific divisional and company strategies, initiatives and projects. Strengthens retail staff’s access and connection to leadership through annual store visits and district conference calls; drives engagement and builds trust in REI’s leaders. Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results. Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages. Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews. Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results. Establishes and maintains visibility within the department. Advance team dedication to customer first, change management, and continuous improvement. Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action. Your Planning & Navigating Requirements (the plans the job is responsible for creating and executing, and how the job ensures they are implemented) Shape and deploy operational strategy – Create and deploy strategic plans for all Logistics operations as an integral component of the supply chain to drive value for the Co-op and excellence in the customer experience. Align and execute strategies with business objectives and translate company strategies into actionable divisional plans. Provide senior leadership with information and analytics to align enterprise omni-channel programs, integrated logistics, investments, projects and capabilities requirements. Optimize Logistics & Transportation Management – Oversee inbound and outbound parcel logistics, transportation networks, and 3PL providers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. Collaborate with vendors, carriers, cross-divisional partners, fulfillment network and stores to optimize logistics processes. Work cross divisionally to drive execution of strategies, initiatives, and projects. Identifying and deliver cost efficiencies through the end-to-end global fulfillment system. Develop Logistics budget plans that are consistent with REI’s long-term plans and annual operating objectives. Accountable for overall Logistics annual budget and plans to reduce cost YoY in line with Co-op Strategic Plan targets for expense as a percentage of revenue. Enhance Contract Support – Provide subject matter expertise on carrier contracts including common terms, cargo insurance, and Statements of Work Set direction and strategy for vendor contracts for truckload, LTL domestic inbound transportation, ocean/ air international inbound, truckload and LTL outbound store delivery, truckload and LTL intra location transfers, unified commerce parcel for stores, vendor direct ship and distribution centers, 3rd party logistics freight hubs. Own final contracts, performance, and service expectations for all direct and 3PL relationships including creating and executing plans to hold vendors accountable to SLAs and improvement of carrier performance YoY. Strengthen Risk Management and Compliance – Ensure shipments comply with customs regulations, tariffs, trade laws, and safety standards. Mitigate risk related to transportation, port disruptions and political factors and ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. Implement Effective Parcel and Customer choice strategies – Develop and implement diverse parcel delivery and customer choice initiatives. Deliver worldclass customer experience through innovative solutions to outbound, fulfilling direct to consumer. Industry leadership with areas around omnichannel, inbound and outbound fulfillment, international trade and compliance, tariff impacts, etc. Customer Satisfaction and Delivery Experience – Elevate the voice of the customer bring their lens and perspective. Strategic leadership for value chain customer focused logistics programs and solutions, aligning e-commerce/ digital, internal logistics and retail capabilities to optimize service, cost and customer outcomes. Optimize Reverse Logistics/Flexible Returns – Manage processes for product returns, refurbishment, recycling, and disposal to minimize waste and recover value. Align supply chain practices with corporate sustainability goals focusing on reducing environmental impact. Represent External Authority – Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders of key vendors to leverage service and pricing advantages. Collaborate and negotiate with senior stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers to minimize costs while maximizing service quality. Represent REI and provide industry leadership in areas such as omni-channel fulfillment, international trade, compliance and tariff impacts. Experience 10+ years experience of International and Domestic Logistics, including Operations, Manufacturing, Distribution, Demand Planning, International Commerce, Tax, and Trade Compliance. 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in retail Logistics preferably with large multi-channel retailers. 10+ years experience leading and developing strategies for network transportation and Logistics, budget planning, and capacity planning. Deep knowledge of inbound and outbound Logistics to run effective and efficient supply chain operations. 7+ years experience of Logistics technology, systems implementation, tools, and analytics methodology. To include experience with systems implementation and integration including electronic data interchange, event management, order management and optimization engines. 10+ years experience leading and delivering cost reduction efforts in cost to serve. 7+ years experience and proven success negotiating contracts and managing strategic vendor relationships. Experience with multi-modal turnkey freight management and warehousing operations. Bachelor’s degree, or higher level of education in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related.
