DESCRIPTION : This position is an Assistant Chief Probation Officer and it will report to the Circuit 2 Chief Probation Officer. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : Supervises Juvenile Probation Officer Supervisors, spends the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing the operational activities of staff. Ensures that all units are performing the required juvenile probation duties. Maintains, tracks and recommends corrective action when needed, for all aspects of probation to include Monthly Supervisor. Reviews that address: Case load review; Review of personnel issues and actions, including staff performance and discipline; Training requirements; Timely court appearances and appropriate conduct; Time management supervisor; PDR quality & timely submission; Performance reviews. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner all policy, procedures and program changes to supervisors. Ensures all units receive at least "satisfactory" rating on the Quality Improvement Review. Completes assignments and inquiries by designated due date in a professional and competent manner. Prepares and reviews responses for assignments. Ensures responses are grammatically correct, presented within the prescribed time frame and following Departmental policies and procedures. Promotes and maintains a positive relationship with staff, community partners, faith partners and agencies that interact with the Department of Juvenile Justice personnel. Treats all employees equally, fairly, with respect and dignity. Maintains positive and professional relationships with all community agencies with impact on services for juveniles and with employees of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Completes administrative duties including personnel, statistical and training areas. Utilizes the JPOS’s to record and track the accomplishments, highlights, "good news", successes and exemplary activities of the circuit staff and youth. Other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Must be currently employed by the Department of Juvenile Justice. This position requires a high school diploma. A minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience. Knowledge of basic supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of personnel rules. Knowledge of Department policies and procedures. Knowledge of circuit and statewide incident reporting procedures. Knowledge of time management principles and practice. Knowledge of applicable statutes, administrative rules, SAMAS, Knowledge of Legislative Budget Request (LBR) process and procedures. Knowledge of prevention diversion and community intervention. Knowledge of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) concept. Ability to evaluate, analyze and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to plan, coordinate and organize complex work assignments. Ability to assess training needs and follow directions. This position requires traveling approximately 30% of the time. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience preferably in youth delinquency. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of experience. A valid driver's license. Knowledge of Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS).
