Purpose

As a strategic technology leader in Syensqo's IT ecosystem, the Data Architect shapes and drives the data architecture strategy and governance. This role is responsible for designing the framework for managing data across systems, storage, and accessibility. The Data Architect ensures data strategies align with business goals, supporting a flexible, modern data architecture for rapid advancements so that the right data is available, with the right security and in the right structure.

Context

After the demerger of Solvay in December 2023, Syensqo is building an independent IT landscape, relying on Solvay for IT services through Transitional Service Agreements (TSA) for two years. During this time, Syensqo will build an efficient, agile IT organization to support growth and innovation. The separation uses a "clone & clean" approach with some transformations in network, security, and workplace. In parallel, substantial modernization will start, including the transition to SAP S/4HANA, creating a data fabric infrastructure, building a modern integration architecture, optimizing the R&I digital landscape, and integrating AI capabilities.

Reporting line

 

The role reports to the Data Lead with a matrix report to Head of Enterprise Architecture

 

Key Job responsibilities and challenges, include:

Architect and design the strategy and systems for Syensqo's data fabric/lakehouse, aligning with company goals and future demands.

Collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and partners to implement optimal data strategies.

Lead the selection and deployment of advanced data management tools for a scalable data platform.

Ensure compliance with data protection, security standards, and regulatory requirements.

Support modernization projects, including migration to SAP S/4HANA and AI enablement.

Support the data team composed of data specialists, promoting innovation, continuous improvement and adherence to architecture standards

Engage stakeholders to understand data needs and promote data-driven decision-making.

Manage data platform tools, ensuring efficient data flow, automation, and minimal manual intervention.

Monitor and address challenges in data architecture to maintain operational excellence.

Stay updated on emerging data technologies to adapt strategies for a competitive edge.

Maintain detailed documentation for data architecture designs and processes.

Alignment with other architecture domains as part of the Architecture Community of Practice working with the Head of Enterprise Archiecture

 

Education and experience

Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.

Extensive experience in technology architecture focusing on business intelligence, data, and AI.

Expertise in ETL processes, data integration, BI tools, big data frameworks, and cloud services.

Strong knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security practices.

Experience with machine learning, AI as plus, and leading technical teams in delivering enterprise data platforms.

Proficiency in agile methodologies; experience with SAFe is preferred.
Skills and behavioral competencies

Proficiency in designing data models, including conceptual, logical, and physical models using tools like SqlDBM or similar.

Familiarity with various DBMS technologies (e.g., relational databases including SAP HANA, NoSQL databases, cloud storage etc).

Deep understand data privacy and security regulations (e.g., GDPR, ITAR)

Experience with ETL tools (SAP Datasphere, Talend, Azure Data factory etc).

Knowledge of Data lakehouse / Data Fabric concepts and technologies (e.g Azure Data Fabric, Databricks, SAP Datasphere, Snowflake etc)

Experience with cloud-based data services (e.g.Azure Data Fabric, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery,).

Detailed knowledge of encryption techniques for data protection.

Effective communication skills to work with stakeholders, developers, and other teams
