POSITION SUMMARY:

The DV Client Advocate is responsible for victim services, including case management, advocacy, and crisis-counseling as well as presenting educational programs to the community.  The DV Client Advocate reports directly to the Program Supervisor

Location: Gloucester County, NJ

Job Type/Status: Full-Time

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide crisis-intervention and counseling to victims, family members and significant others.

Accompany victims through procedures at area hospitals, police departments, prosecutor's office and court.  Provide victims with case-related medical and legal information.

Present educational programs in schools, community and church groups, and other professional organizations.  Assist with additional outreach efforts and attend scheduled events.

Facilitate intakes and Family Violence Options (FVO) sessions

Provide case management assisting with resources

Provide appropriate referrals for victims.

Coordinate and facilitate support group services for survivors of domestic violence

Provide coverage for the 24-hour hotline.

Maintain victim case files, following state and agency guidelines.

Complete monthly and quarterly statistics and reports.

Participate in community collaboration meetings and the SERV Prevention Coalition

Meet the goals/outcome of grant requirements

Assist with office procedures pertinent to the operations of the program.


REQUIREMENTS: 

The DV Client Advocate must successfully complete 40 hour New Jersey State Confidential Sexual Violence Advocacy Training and the 40 hour Domestic Violence training provided by Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV).  Advocates have experience working with people, especially on a one-to-one basis, and demonstrated sensitivity toward the needs of victims.  Effective verbal and written communication skills and public speaking is required.  A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Human Services is preferred.  Work experience may substitute for education on a year-to-year basis.
