Drafter, Building Science and Restoration

The Building Science and Restoration Drafter will work as an active team member within the project team, from assessment, conceptual, and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion. They must have sound drafting knowledge, know how a building goes together, and what a great set of drawings should communicate. The successful candidate is a self-motivated, fast learner with a desire to continually learn and grow and has a passion for building structures and envelope systems. A commitment to providing exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions is key.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Duties and skills that you will learn and develop include, but are not limited to:

Develop drawings of existing and new buildings from general conceptual information to working drawing and design notes. Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is a must, and MicroStation is an asset. Co-ordinate RJC’s drawings with those of other disciplines on projects. Provide project drafting and be accountable for drafting schedule and efficiency. Be accountable to Engineers and Technologists for drawing production and quality. Work with a Project Engineer within the project team to take a project from the preliminary conceptual stage to working drawing phase. Produce drawings and detail packages for both Building Envelope and Structural Restoration projects. Awareness of the designer’s influence on constructability and project costs. Be creative and at the same time practical.

 

Professional Qualifications: EDUCATION Diploma/certification in Engineering/Architectural design and drafting technology from a technical college/university. Registered as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with OACETT, or eligible for registration.

 

EXPERIENCE 1-3 years of previous experience in AutoCAD drafting for buildings. Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset. Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.

Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions. Familiarity with building construction and construction practices.
