Questions or need assistance with application: 406-869-8318 The main purpose and function of the Driller is to locate the correct area to be drilled and operate the drill to obtain the appropriate samples and data. Specific responsibilities may include: + Operate drill and medium-duty 4x4 trucks utilizing safe and legal access to sites. + Locate beds and log work. + Obtain appropriate samples and document both depth and location. + Assist in efficient scheduling of drill. + Perform preventive maintenance and light repair work. + Ensure accurate locating, logging, and sampling. + Provide cost effective solutions to field challenges. + Ensure operating availability of equipment. + Ensure appropriate consideration is given to safety, quality, and environmental concerns. + Work under general supervision and make decisions under set guidelines and strict safety rules. + Make purchases (no cash) under the authority of Exploration and Hauling Supervisor. + Interact with Lab Department, Mine Utility Operators, Maintenance, and all supervisors. + Responsible for on-site work assignments when in charge of drilling rig. + Make recommendations and set goals with Exploration and Hauling Supervisor. + Make recommendations, but has no direct authority to select, promote, discipline, or terminate. + Responsible for reporting safety, quality, environmental, and equipment concerns to Field Resource Supervisor. + Achieve specific goals established during the annual performance evaluation. + Support and participate in the organization’s Continual Improvement Program by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives. + Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Education and training: + High school diploma or equivalent general knowledge. Experience: + Bentonite drilling desired but will train. + Experience working in an ISO/API environment a plus. Knowledge and Skills: + Problem solving skills: ability to identify source of problem; execute solution and document the issue; escalate to management. + Operation of all drilling equipment. + Map reading and locating specific target areas. + Basic computer skills. + Basic bentonite geology. + Light mechanical skills. + Record keeping. + Valid driver’s license required. Physical and Safety Requirements: + Reasonable accommodation is made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. + Frequent strenuous work. + Frequently work around moving mechanical and hydraulic hazards. + Frequently operate four-wheel drive pickups and drill carrier in rough terrain. + Frequently work outside in variable weather. + Ability to assess safety conditions in a wide variety of environments. + Ability to self-assign work duties and meet reasonable deadlines. + Sitting, bending, standing, walking, 8-10 hours per day. + Frequently lifts 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. + Ability to lift 50 lbs. above shoulders. + Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements. + Exposure to production environment. + Frequent travel.
