Job Summary:
The Driver, Meal Transportation provides regular assistance to clients by transporting nutritional meals through our Meals on Wheels program.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the safe delivery of meals to clients as part of the Meals on Wheels program.Ensure any necessary certification is completed as directedMaximize safety through daily maintenance of the driver’s primary vehicle and ensure all necessary certification is currentComplete vehicle log sheets regularlyProvide support to clients as needed, including carrying and safely securing clients’ equipment at pick-up and drop-off locationsAbides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations, and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their roleAbide by the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving AgreementAbides by all VON policies and work practices including any event and incident reportsAll other duties as assigned and delivery of service according to schedulesCommon Responsibilities:

High school diplomaA minimum of one year of experience working with seniors and adults with disabilitiesExperience with, and physically capable of, handling vehicle restraintsSkill Requirements:
Able to work with accessible equipment e.g. wheelchairs, motorized scooters, walkers, mechanical lifts and Q-straint tie down system.Reliable, dependable, and flexible.Good verbal communication skills.Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds using appropriate lifting techniques.Strong attention to detail.Must be able to engage in physical activity as a regular component of the job.Ability to speak Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, or French is an asset.Other:
Must possess a valid driver’s permit and a clean driver’s abstract. The abstract must be obtained annually.Must provide proof of required insurance coverage when using a personal vehicle.A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of employment.A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check is required.The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be requiredWorking conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
