Driver Courtesy Transport Program - Social Work
Job Description JOB SUMMARY: The Courtesy Driver is responsible for providing transportation to and from Arnot Health for patients and their families. The Courtesy Driver reports to the Courtesy Transport Coordinator and the Director of Patient Experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: TRANSPORT PATIENTS: ** 1. Promptly assists patients entering or exiting the transport vehicle. Also assists patients up and down stairways and into or out of the front door of their homes; while utilizing safe patient handling techniques. ** 2. Adheres to the motor vehicle laws and regulations of the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. ** 3. Maintains a clean driving record. ** 4. Maintains the Patient Experience transport van(s) in a safe operating condition. This includes, but is not limited to fueling, cleaning, scheduled and unscheduled mechanical servicing of the vehicle(s). All care and servicing of the vehicle(s) will be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and will be performed in such a manner as to maintain appropriate warranties and insurance coverage. ** 5. Maintains a daily transportation log including driver name, patient name, date, time location of pick-up and drop-off of patient. ** 6. Informs immediate supervisor and other appropriate personnel of pertinent information relative to the patient. ** 7. Consistently demonstrates the ability to adapt to change in workload/assignments. 8. Continually uses time to maximize full potential. Will assist Customer Service Associates with duties of transport throughout the facility and grounds when not transporting patient via vehicle. QUALITY OF WORK: 1. Performs and completes assignments providing consistent quality and quantity of work. 2. Properly cares for equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner. 3. Functions with awareness of risk management and safety issues, and reports concerns appropriately. JOB KNOWLEDGE: 1. Assumes personal responsibility for participating in ongoing education and skill development. Attends mandatory in-services. 2. Reviews employee handbook, revised policies and procedures, and bulletin board in order to maintain understanding of Arnot Health regulations and new relevant information. 3. Maintains a complete understanding of the Arnot Health emergency procedures and personal role in regard to fire safety, code blue, and disaster procedures. JUDGEMENT/INITIATIVE: 1. Recognizes potential patient problems and advises appropriate personnel. 2. Demonstrates the ability to use appropriate problem solving techniques in interaction with other caregivers. 3. Demonstrates excellent critical thinking skills when encountering deteriorating road conditions as a result of weather conditions. 4. Demonstrates initiative in being open to new ideas. 5. Routinely seeks guidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of job duties. 6. Reports patient incidents, complaints or grievances to the Patient Experience Director as soon as possible. 7. Maintains the rights of all patients to independent expression, decision, personal freedom, dignity and freedom from abuse or social isolation. ATTITUDE AND COOPERATION: 1. Has ability to maintain good interpersonal communication skills and relationships among patients, staff and other Arnot Health personnel. 2. Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner, displaying courtesy at all times. 3. Observes Arnot Health policy concerning telephone usage, computer confidentiality, smoking regulations, language and other related rules governing conduct while at work. DEPENDABILITY/RELIABILITY: 1. Demonstrates reliability in the conscientious and complete manner in which work assignments are performed. 2. Demonstrates responsibility by reporting to work on time per assigned schedule. 3. Is flexible in work schedule to meet the needs of the unit. 4. Provides timely notification for absence or tardiness. 5. Does not abuse sick time/unscheduled benefit time. PERSONAL APPEARANCE AND HYGIENE: 1. Observes uniform and/or dress code and wears identification badge at all times. Badge is clearly visible to patients, visitors and co-workers. 2. Consistently demonstrates personal hygiene. OTHER: 1. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position. 2. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health. 3. It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: In possession of a valid drivers license for at least three years, and be at least 25 years of age. CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS: No CPR required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts may involve lifting, pushing, pulling. Must be able to lift at least forty (40) pounds independently, and at least one hundred and fifty (150) with the assistance of another person. EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category II. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. But employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. ** A.D.A Essential Functions Requirements
