PostingTo manage/supervise transport driver in field operations within a specific geographic region. Having direct management responsibilities for Transport drivers. Drivers include company employee and contract drivers. Driver Field Managers (DFM) will manage drivers in their employment matters, contractor agreements, training, safety meetings and other duties directly related to driver performance. This will include safety meetings in person and video conferencing. Primary focus on safety related to employees, equipment and operations. Manage driver head count efficiently and is responsible for operational and labor expenses related to company driver employment and contractor agreements. Responsible for driver compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory authorities having jurisdiction. Support PTI operations with fleet management of tractors, trailers and indirect responsibility of drivers by coordinating with the Regional Logistics Manager – Fleet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety
Ensure all drivers perform daily work with the focus on World Class Safety actions. Conduct driver safety meetings with each PTI driver assigned according to area of responsibility. Quantity and timing of driver meetings to be coordinated with dispatch operations. Regular contact with each PTI driver assigned according to area of responsibility. Contact should be in several forms with focus on person-to-person contact.
Accident /Incident Investigation
Partner with the Manager of Safety to determine mitigate, review and provide recommendations/actions for all safety incidents including near miss events. Personal oversight of all accidents/incidents.
Manage Driver Daily Operations
Ensure driver execution of daily dispatch. Responsible for accuracy of driver documentation and promptness of data reporting. Review driver routing for efficiency and/or non-approved out of route travel. Partner with Area Transportation Managers and Regional Logistics Manager of Fleet to ensure driver associated costs are aligned with budget line items for PTI P&L. Minimize operating cost, review loaded/empty mile ratio and provide feedback to operations for optimizing internal fleet assets. Ensure regulatory compliance with all agencies that have jurisdiction over DOT driver qualifications. Responsible to ensure that drivers and equipment are correctly licensed and permitted for each state of responsibility.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding strategic planning as well as specific operational components of highway transportation within supply chain structure. Extensive knowledge of Department of Transportation/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Working background with the application of DOT/FMCSA Hours of Service for highway transportation. Experience with trucking economics including profit and loss statements. Management experience for diverse work groups and basic knowledge of Federal labor laws. Conflict resolution management and interpersonal skills that coincide with team and supply chain management environments. Must be well versed in computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office programs).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Business Management/Logistics related field (preferred) and/or the equivalent of 10+ years in management or supervisory experience. 10+ years of relevant experience in transportation management or central dispatch operations.
