Drug Shortage Pharmacist - Hybrid Role

Job Description:

Baptist Health is looking for a Drug Shortage Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team at our new Central Pharmacy in LaGrange, KY! This is a hybrid role working on-site and remote.

Identification of possible drug shortages through various sources such as, but not limited to: FDA, Drug manufacturers, Vendors, Pharmacy Organizations, Baptist Health (BH) sites.Review of the identified drug shortage(s) to understand the potential impact and severity of the drug shortage at BH facilities. Review may include:Inventory level assessmentHistorical use of the impacted drug at BH facilitiesAssessment and identification of alternatives availableOngoing support and communication needed for the drug shortageLeverage expertise to proactively review available resources that can be utilized for efficient drug shortage management.Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, clinical, operational, safety and procurement teams to identify and review mitigation strategies.Act as a resource to multidisciplinary committees and workgroups to vet and implement mitigation strategies.Co-ordinate reversal of implemented changes after resolution of drug shortage.On an ongoing basis, analyze inventory levels of medications to identify shortage patterns.Based on identified shortage patterns, work with the drug procurement team proactively to procure drugs/products to meet BH needs.Review the impact of shortage strategies to identify initiatives that should be implemented as standard practices.Assists with inventory allocations and movement of inventory across BH sites.Assist in establishing site specific inventory benchmarks of affected drugs to ensure efficient drug shortage management.Co-ordinate with buyers and procurement team to ensure vendor allocations of affected drug(s) are fulfilled as promised.Provides up to date information about drug shortage routinely and as deemed necessary at various committees and meetings.Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain updates on drug availability.Inform healthcare providers about changes in medication therapy due to shortages as deemed necessary.Address any concerns related to medication substitutions or changes.Maintain accurate records of drug shortages and interventions taken.Prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies on drug shortage status and resolution efforts.Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance medication management processes.Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations regarding drug distribution and patient safety.Providing pharmacy leadership with an impact analysis and recommend continuation or discontinuation of an implemented strategy once the drug shortage has resolved.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required.3 years of hospital pharmacy experience and/or pharmacy experience.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and other pharmacy related applications (Omnicell, Epic) preferred.Must obtain Kentucky and/or Indiana Board of Pharmacy license within 1 year.
