Dry Cask Equipment Technician

Westinghouse Electric Company’s Specialty Welding & Machining business unit is seeking a Dry Cask Equipment Technician to support the readiness, maintenance, and refurbishment of Dry Cask welding equipment used in nuclear outage support. This role will work closely with the Field Equipment Coordinator to ensure equipment is properly inspected, maintained, and deployed in a timely manner while also identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Inspection, Maintenance & Refurbishment:

Perform pre- and post-deployment inspections of Dry Cask welding equipment to ensure operational reliability. Conduct preventive maintenance on all Dry Cask welding equipment, following established schedules and procedures. Perform repairs and testing of Dry Cask equipment before and after nuclear outage use. Execute refurbishment of aging Dry Cask equipment to extend service life and reduce the need for new purchases. Assist other technicians in troubleshooting and repairing Dry Cask equipment when issues arise.

Logistics & Coordination:

Work with the Field Equipment Coordinator to ensure equipment readiness and availability for scheduled projects. Coordinate with the DCS Program Manager to align equipment deployment with project timelines. Inventory and manage Dry Cask spare parts roll-aways before and after deployment to nuclear outage sites.

Cost Control & Process Improvement:

Identify cost-saving opportunities in equipment refurbishment, maintenance, and repair processes. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Assist in tracking equipment usage, maintenance history, and spare parts consumption to optimize resource allocation.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure that all Dry Cask equipment meets Westinghouse safety, quality, and regulatory standards before deployment. Adhere to nuclear industry requirements for equipment maintenance and refurbishment. Follow proper documentation and reporting procedures for equipment inspections, repairs, and inventory tracking.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, repair, or welding systems support, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or nuclear environment. Technical Knowledge: Hands-on experience with welding equipment, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. Mechanical & Electrical Skills: Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems in welding equipment. Logistics & Inventory Management: Experience tracking equipment, spare parts, and maintenance schedules. Problem-Solving Ability: Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on improving equipment reliability and reducing costs. Technology Proficiency: Experience using maintenance tracking software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in warehouse/field environments, and travel occasionally to support equipment deployments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting nuclear outage equipment and Dry Cask welding systems. Military veterans with experience in equipment maintenance, welding, or logistics are encouraged to apply. Certifications in welding, maintenance, or mechanical repair are a plus.
