YOU, Inc is looking for a part-time Advisor to join our Dynamy John S. Laws Academy in Worcester!

 

Direct an experiential, afterschool, college success and leadership program for Worcester Public high school students. Mentor students, who are first-generation college goers, in a hands-on, real world curriculum. Plan and facilitate individual and group advising meetings to support students in meeting their educational goals and program requirements. Manage internship and community service opportunities, adventure challenges, college awareness, and other experiential learning activities. Responsibilities The staff works directly with the freshman class facilitating class meetings and advising. Also helps facilitate the monthly community meetings.Serve as a liaison for the program by maintaining and building strong relationships (attending meetings, being part of committees, sharing program information, updates, etc.) with program partners: Worcester Public Schools; along with community partners/agencies. The staff analyzes individual, group, and program needs and selects appropriate materials and resources to match the abilities and meet the needs of all students and to provide meaningful learning experiences to meet diverse student needs. Ability to build healthy engaging relationship with students and other staff that result in efficient performance by all and student/staff/program outcomes being met. The staff utilizes classroom/program procedures and differentiated instruction to maximize student learning. The staff has a clear understanding of the students’ abilities and challenges students in an appropriate, suitable way.Mentor and guide 9th  grade students through individual and group advising.Participate in weekly program planning.Ensure that students are on track with fulfilling their Dynamy graduation requirements; community service, internships, and attendance requirements.Ensure that you are following through with students' attendance and that you are informing parents and guidance counselors about any student issues.Monitor students' grades quarterly and ensure that students receive tutoring if necessary.Serve as staff at weekly tutoring programming.Schedule guided tours of post-secondary institutions in and around Worcester, MA.

 

Qualifications Experience with data entry and organization.Knowledge of  educational/societal needs of the population and issues related to retention and providing postsecondary access and opportunity.Ability to work cooperatively with school/agency/institution personnel to assure academic success, program retention, postsecondary enrollment and completion.Excellent verbal/written communication skills, organizational skills, and computer literacy.Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Counseling, or related field.Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.Ability to drive (license and car).
