Responsibilities:

Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician

 

Purpose Statement: To satisfy the site's electrical needs including the installation, maintenance, and repair of the plant equipment in a safe, timely, and craftsman-like manner.

 

The Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician works a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

The E&I technician works in team of 12 (from various shifts).

The E&I tech will work onsite, in-person at: 3600 Discovery Drive, Chester, VA 23836

 

Accountabilities:

Be accountable for self, teammates, and others working in the area. Believe incidents are preventable and take appropriate actions when observing unsafe acts or unsafe conditions.Provide logical troubleshooting abilities, maintain and repair site equipment in a reliable and craftsman-like manner.Understand and follow site safety rules and procedures.Maintain and develop interpersonal skills in order to work with and communicate with people.Maintain and develop our technical skills necessary to keep pace with changing technology.

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Checks and performs preventive maintenance on motor control center equipment; repairs or replaces motors as needed.Operates computer keyboard daily to input data into the Maintenance Management System (SAP), such as time and material charged to a work order, and historical equipment data. Technician inputs his/her time into the payroll system.  Uses computer to research and track down needed parts, to input work time and to receive HR information.Acts as a resource for operations areas daily to provide an understanding of system function.Maintains calibration records, job procedures and manuals regularly.Performs ISO calibration on strain gauges, yardage counters, temperature controllers, etc. Calibrates gages, controllers, transmitters and gage system as required; calibrates substation breakers occasionally; coordinates calibration of test equipment.Overhauls production and process equipment on film lines, polymer lines, slitting machines and cooling towers.Inspects equipment and repairs and/or modifies equipment using hand tools such wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, wire stripper and lug crimpers.Repairs electrical equipment such as motors, generators, AC and DC drives, Motor Control Centers, Power distribution panels, etc.Tests, troubleshoots and repairs electronic equipment and electrical circuits daily by using specialized instruments such as multi-meters, wiggies, clamp-on ammeters, oscilloscopes and frequency meters.Troubleshoots process control computer systems, including but not limited to Reliance DCS, Modicon & Siemens PLC, Control Logix, using portable computers; troubleshoot temperature, level, and pressure control instruments processors; troubleshoot AC or DC variable speed drives and line speed control systems as needed.Upgrades drawings to reflect “as-built” or modifications. Upgrades schematics from old system to newer technologies.Follows safe work practices as set forth by DuPont S31G and NFPA 70E.Uses lock, tag and try procedure before beginning work on equipment and/or systems.Maintains Corona treater by using cleaning technique and setting proper gaps.Designs and fabricates mounting and tubing connections as needed.Pulls, unplugs and dips tubes using hand tools as needed.Handles and properly disposes of mercury as needed.Repairs or replaces hydraulic devices such as regulators, relief and flow valves.Monitors setting of brushes on motor commutators for proper setting.Repairs D.C. generators; repairs and replaces Avtron speed control.Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.Troubleshoots equipment to detect imperfections.Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.Expedites equipment and parts; coordinates equipment for off-plant repairs and sets up parts for stores.Conducts ISO audits in maintenance area.Contributes to planning and scheduling of shutdowns.Troubleshoots and maintains pneumatic instrumentation, including rebuilding automatic control valves, and pneumatic or electronic controllers.Performs High Voltage (13,200 Vac) switching for Substation PM and repair work.Performs simple maintenance and electrical tasks such as mounting objects (cabinets, pictures, etc.) to wall and relamping assigned areas, repairing electrical switches and outlets.Perform Capital Project work.

At times will be called upon to train, assist and supervise other technicians in the completion of electrical work in their area including projects, preventive maintenance and equipment repair.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of or be able to learn SAP plant maintenance software; move around in site's and company's Intranet; and communicate through e-mail software such as Lotus Notes.

Qualifications:

Education Required

High School Diploma or GEDOne or more of the following is requiredAssociate's degree in Instrumentation or Engineering Technology with 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment in Industrial / Manufacturing environments Or Completed apprenticeship program with 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment in Industrial / Manufacturing environments Or 7+ years of experience maintaining and repairing electrical and instrumentation equipment in a manufacturing environment

 

Skills & Knowledge

Required

3+ years’ experience maintaining and repairing Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment in Industrial / Manufacturing environments (in conjunction with required training/certification)Experience reading schematicsExperience using test equipment and hand tools.

 

Preferred

Experience with Automated Technologies – troubleshooting in an industrial/manufacturing environment Experience and knowledge of DCS, DC Motors – troubleshooting/repairing Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and computers – troubleshooting Process Control & MonitoringKnowledgeable in Electrical Safety and National Electric Code Knowledgeable in the General process of filmmaking & Polymers Experience using plant maintenance software / ERP (enterprise resource planning) software such as SAPExperience using Lotus NotesE&I experience in the military is a plus
