EAP Clinical Counselor, Work Life Connections - Employee Assistance Program

Vanderbilt’s mission is to advance health and wellness through preeminent programs in patient care, education, and research. **Organization:** WorkLife Connections Clinical **Job Summary:** JOB SUMMARY Deliver direct clinical services to faculty and staff for Work/Life Connections-EAP. The Clinical Counselor is responsible for making independent decisions regarding clinical assessment, treatment planning, and management of caseload and recommendations for employee return to work within the Program guidelines. Provides services under the clinical supervision of the EAP Clinical Manager. Reports to the Assistant Manager of Work/Life Connections-EAP. . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Conducts assessment and referral of employees with personal and job related problems. • Provides short-term counseling, as appropriate. • Provides crisis intervention and CISM (critical incident stress management services) for individuals and groups of employees in response to traumatic events as needed. • Monitors and supports employees in recovery from chemical dependency, particularly the impaired nurses and physicians. Arranges their re-entry into the workplace as appropriate. Encourage employees to sign an alcohol and drug agreement with EAP. Works closely with the Professional Assistance Programs and treatment centers. Intervenes as needed with employees who do not comply with agreement. Conducts discharge planning meetings with employees and counselor at the treatment center. • Performs management consultations to facilitate early identification, intervention, and referral of employees with job performance problems. • Participates on an as needed basis with policy initiatives especially related to the Drug Free Workplace and Violence in the Workplace. • Assists Organizational Manager with training's and educational workshops as appropriate. • Maintains confidentiality of all EAP client records. Provides documentation of client's biopsychological needs, assessment and treatment plan recommendations. • Updates a resource and referral directory of Vanderbilt and other community resources. • Participates in EAP Staff meetings to discuss EAP client cases, particularly complex cases requiring supervision. • Coordinates the return to work transition with employees and managers, as appropriate. Employees may have been hospitalized (inpatient and/or outpatient) due to a medical condition. This condition may be due to physical health, psychiatric or substance abuse. • Provides supervision for graduate social work interns, when applicable. • Serves as liaison between EAP, Human Resource Services, and other departments. • Internal: The nature of the work performed by this position is extremely confidential, involving risk-management decisions that require frequent communication and collaboration with the Work/Life Connections -EAP Manager, Work/Life Connections - EAP Clinical Manager, and the Health and Wellness Medical Director. The position requires the development of effective relationships with internal departments such as Employee Relations, Occupational Health Clinic, Police and Security, Recruitment and Staffing, Risk Management, Legal and other areas as appropriate. • External: The confidential nature of the work requires that the Work/Life Connections EAP strictly adhere to Federal Confidentiality Guidelines, including those for Alcohol and Drug. Communications occur between Work/Life Connections EAP treatment centers, Professional Assistance Programs, medical centers and/or clinics, physicians, facilities, family members, Department of Human Services, private therapists and other individuals or agencies as needed. • Patient/Student Contact: May have occasional contact with employees who are patients at Vanderbilt or other facilities.
