What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you passionate about promoting a safe and healthy work environment? Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated Safety Engineer to join our team of safety experts. You will report directly to the Safety and Health Engineering I Manager in Department 04623 and will integrate safety into planning, design, construction, inspections, and work practices across Sandia’s dynamic research, development, industrial, and construction operations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and a solid technical and administrative background.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Provide advice on lockout/tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, hoisting and rigging, material handling and safe work practices
+ Provide training to the workforce on lockout/tagout and other areas as needed
+ As part of a team, help develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures
+ Draft safety communications and lessons learned
+ Respond to safety-related inquiries from leaders and employees
+ Complete safety walks and site audits to coach and educate leaders and employees on safe work practices and to proactively identify safety issues and establish corrections and improvements
+ Participate in safety meetings with management, workers, general contractors and/or other trade groups
+ As part of a team, investigate accidents and significant near misses for root cause determination, corrective action, and shared learning
+ Participate with the DOE Electrical Safety community
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$72,800 - $140,600
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
+ Bachelor's degree in a technical or Occupational Safety discipline; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
+ Experience in Industrial or Construction-related Safety, including knowledge on lockout/tagout, electrical related hazards, safe work practices, and the latest editions of Codes and Standards
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online software solutions used for Safety & Training
+ The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:

+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), and/or Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP)
+ Experience developing and delivering instructional courses focused on lockout/tagout and other safety topics.
+ Ability to support research and development activities such as: pulsed power, instrumentation/calibration, high voltage - low current and manufacturing activities.
+ Effective collaboration skills to create win-win solutions with internal and external partners.
+ Strong relationship building and influencing skills
+ Innovative problem-solving abilities to evolve or create new solutions.

About Our Team:
The Safety and Health Engineering department provides the tools and expertise to evaluate and control occupational hazards and ensure SNL meets worker safety and health requirements. Safety and Health Engineering is responsible for a diverse set of occupational safety and health programs that includes Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Construction Safety and Hearing Conservation along with many others.

Security Clearance:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
