Early Childhood Education Coach (part-time, Staff wage)

The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a part-time Early Childhood Education Coach position to join our highly collaborative, diverse early childhood education (ECE) team. The work will focus on providing coaching and other professional development activities to support Virginia leaders and teachers to ensure all young children in Virginia experience high-quality early learning opportunities. Specifically, the work will support the state-wide expansion of the comprehensive, birth-five STREAMin3 curriculum model through a partnership and funding from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). STREAMin3 is an innovative, high-quality, interaction-based curriculum grounded in developmental and early education research. 

 

This position is primarily remote but will require traveling to programs in Virginia. 

 

Role and Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

Be an expert in the STREAMin3 Curriculum Model, including the digital portal.  Regularly plan, schedule, and provide individualized or group coaching sessions (based on established coaching protocols) for education leaders and teachers. These will be held virtually on Zoom or in person at sites. Assist educators in using data from assessment tools (such as CLASS, VKRP, PALS, and child and classroom data) to improve quality. Contribute to the development of curriculum materials and training. Coordinate multiple simultaneous tasks of varying complexity, with demonstrated accountability and excellent attention to detail while implementing flexible problem-solving skills. Contribute to outreach and recruitment of classrooms, programs, and leaders.  

 

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Preferred qualifications for candidates include: 

Expertise in the STREAMin3 curriculum model, the STREAMin3 digital portal, and experience using or supporting it in various settings. Experience with coaching, consulting, technical assistance, or training adult educators and leaders in individual and group settings. The capacity to travel to program locations across Virginia (e.g., Richmond, Charlottesville, Roanoke). Excellent executive function skills: organization, time management, shifting focus (multitasking; alternating focus on details and ‘the big picture’ as needed). Proficiency in using: Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams); video conferencing (Zoom); and digital data management tools. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Compensation Information  

Hourly rate: $32/hour Mileage reimbursement pursuant to UVA policy and Federal law. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.  This position will also require an Education Verification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience will be required in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Two years of experience required with a Bachelor's degree. Six years of experience required with a High School degree or equivalent.
Licensure: None.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
