Early Learning Enrichment Instructor

Buehler YMCA located in Palatine, IL is now hiring an Early Learning Enrichment Instructor!

The Early Learning Enrichment Instructor will run year-round programming with various program lengths.  Instructors can expect to work various programs: 1-day classes, 6-week programs, monthly programs, and/or continuous year-round programs. Instructors should expect to work 2 hours per week per class taught (1 hour instruction, 1 hour prep/set up / clean-up / communication with families.)  The Early Learning Enrichment Instructor provides leadership and planning of specialty (STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, cooking, dance and movement, sports of all sorts) programs for different youth between the ages of 2-5. 

Salary range is $16.20-$18.00 per hour depending on qualifications and certifications

Scope of Responsibilities 

Youth-facing program facilitation (60%) Program training, planning, and preparation (25%) Program clean-up, material organizing and inventory, program evaluation and transportation (15%) Collaborates with other instructors to run Early Learning Enrichment programs Plans and facilitates programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA and in alignment with curriculum Modifies activities as needed to ensure cultural relevance, developmental appropriateness, and program schedule Creates programs that support hands-on active learning with key elements to promote critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and communication Generates daily and weekly reports on program progress for supervisor and YMCA leadership Positive interactions with youth, and parents Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, youth safety, and emergency procedures Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill-in during temporary absences at locations in the suburbs of Chicago, if available Available to transport program equipment as needed between sites Maintains inventory of program equipment and notifies supervisor of equipment issues Additional duties as assigned If you are selected as a Early Learning Enrichment liaison, in addition to these tasks, will be required to keep in communication with parents, and update them about what is being done in program

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years of age Must have prior experience working with youth Able to carry 50+ lbs Previous experience facilitating youth programs Commitment to, and passion for, the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide a high-quality of instruction using age-appropriate practices. Ability to observe student behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
