We have an incredible opening for a Foundation Accountant to join our team! Our Foundation Accountant works under general direction of the Controller in preparation of audited, regulatory and management financial reports, month-end and year-end closing, and all aspects of foundation accounting, including reporting, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations and account analysis. This role is remote, but candidates must live in the state of California in order to be considered.
Our Foundation Accountant:
Supports the Foundation in grant financial reporting, and grant management. Oversees all foundation accounting operations related to the Brown Bag program, as well as all activities pertaining to the ECA Foundation and TA Foundation.. Records all philanthropy/donations, including reconciliation of grant receivables. Reconciles discrepancies between the GL and donation tracking software. Reconciles donor-restricted equity accounts, reflecting activity for both donations and releases. Track all activity by fund monthly for restricted and unrestricted funds. Prepares monthly net asset roll forwards and quarterly journal entries. Works closely with the philanthropy teams on fund reporting requests.
Financial Close & Reporting:
Together with the Controller and Accounting Manager, responsible for monthly close to ensure accuracy of the financial statements. Records all transactions related to investment activities, including purchases and sales of investments, unrealized and realized gains and losses. Records all transactions related to financing activities debt payments, mortgage insurance, escrow and tax payment activities, and financing costs. Works with Payments Specialist and Staff Accountant to record any required G/L A/P accruals. Prepares and posts monthly journal entries, account analysis and account reconciliations in accordance with the accounting close timeline. Journal entries include prepaids, interest expense, and other revenue / expenses such as charitable care releases. Assists Controller with researching and explaining month to-month variances between actual figures and budget balances. Assists with preparation and review of YE audit and tax work schedules and cost reports for all areas excluding operating revenue and accounts receivable. Other Reporting and Compliance Functions:
Prepares quarterly debt compliance reports for community mortgage financing (AVC, AVSF, AVSR and VSM). Promote the Mission, Vision and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility, and demonstrate commitment to Culture of Excellence and strategic goals Performs other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
B.S. degree in accounting preferred; suitable work experience is required in specific areas of job duties. Comprehensive knowledge of all general accounting functions. 5 years accounting experience required with 3 years in a non-profit or related area. Strong basis in foundation accounting required. Ability to comprehend the complete financial pattern of all revenue and expense transactions and understand full ramifications of recording, reconciliations, and FS reporting is required. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Spreadsheet proficiency and experience with integrated G/L accounting software is required. Experience with Bloomerang a plus. Experience with Workday a plus. Must be self-motivated and able to exercise good judgment, initiative, and creativity to meet monthly deadlines and schedules. Must be able to function as a team player by sharing knowledge, maintaining work commitments, and cooperating in timelines with others. Must have the ability to handle multiple assignments and duties simultaneously. Must have good communication skills and respect work styles and time of others. Solution focused, suggesting changes and new procedures to save time, streamline process, and provide greater accuracy in reporting.
