Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. Will serve as technical staff in the Echo Lab per International Accreditation Commission definitions.
Technical staff responsibilities include but are not limited to: Reports to the Director of Radiology. Assumes the responsibilities specified by the Director of Radiology and, in general, is responsible for the performance of clinical examinations and other tasks assigned. Able to perform adult echocardiograms.
Verifies patient by identification band and verbal response comparing two identifiers with the requisition and chart. Ensures correct procedure is done by checking chart or prescription for correct exam order, calls for order clarification as needed and documents order clarification correctly.
Completes annual training and demonstrates age-specific care thereby meeting the needs of patient population served.
Greets and assists patient with appropriate attire for procedure, thoroughly explains procedure, length, and expectations along with desired results. Expresses sincere concern for patient’s well-being by conveying the feeling that they are the reason we are here and to reduce the patient’s anxiety.
Selects and utilizes appropriate technical factors for procedure based on body habitus, pathology, and body part while consistently positioning patient properly during procedure. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of imaging equipment being used, which will be listed on the competency Skills Checklist.
Maintains acceptable completion time based on the complexity of the procedure and or condition of the patient thereby demonstrating good utilization of time through productivity.
Completes documentation in EMR for billing purposes and patient chart to include writing in the progress notes. Verifies that all images obtained have crossed over successfully into Pacs and are of high quality prior to forwarding to the Radiologists for interpretation.
Echocardiography Sonographers hired with Vascular training/certification will be required to assist with vascular ultrasounds as needed when possible per their own schedule.
Maintains the storage and safety of medications – identify those items stored in the supply room that are considered medications (large volume IV’s, alcohol, saline, medications in prepackaged kits.) Understands the importance of securing all medications under lock and key. Demonstrates appropriate handling and storage of medication.
Works to maintain satisfactory working relationships with Echo medical and Director of Radiology, physicians, ancillary departments, visitors, patients, and patient’s family members. Seeks opportunities to promote the vision, goals and values of McLeod Health.
All other duties and assignments as directed by leadership.
Must have a degree or certificate in echo sonography. Must be certified by ARRT or ARDMS.
BLS certification also required.
