QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program required; accredited cardiovascular school preferred. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). BLS for Healthcare Providers required; ACLS preferred. 1-2 years of non-invasive experience in an echo and vascular laboratory preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY
The echo vascular sonographer performs cardiovascular diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures. The sonographer must be able to perform echocardiograms and vascular ultrasound procedures of the carotid, peripheral and abdominal vessels to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disorders/diseases affecting circulation in accordance with established practices and procedures. Technologists produce two- and three-dimensional ultrasonic imaging, understand heart rhythms interpretation and utilize equipment proficiently. The echo vascular sonographer needs to have a working knowledge of vascular arterial anatomy for carotid and peripheral vasculature in order to perform diagnostic echocardiograms, carotids, abdominal aorta screenings and ABI and arterial studies of lower extremities of patients with suspected peripheral vascular disease following IAC/ICAEL and ICAVL guidelines and in accordance with the echo/vascular laboratory protocols. Maintains equipment per respective policies and reports any malfunctions to the Bio-Medical Services department.
This position delivers care in a prompt and professional manner, always maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and respect. The sonographer works as part of the care team to meet the needs of the customer and to support departmental objectives. This position performs related office duties and participates in performance improvement activities.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The technologist performs specific testing based on his/her educational level and clinical proficiency. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous substances and potential injury. This position requires extensive standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting of patients up to 50 pounds.
