Performs echocardiography examinations using cardiac ultrasound technology for diagnostic interpretation by the cardiologist.

Responsibilities Clearly explains procedure to the patient and responds to any questions or concerns. Produces accurate and appropriate anatomic and physiologic information for the physician to review. Recognizes abnormalities and extends scope of examination as appropriate. Integrates clinical information, ultrasound image content, and related physiologic data to tailor the examination in order to provide optimal data. Accurately applies principles of ultrasound. Communicates findings to the physician interpreting the study.Communicates critical results to physician immediately. Demonstrates skill in selecting reliable echocardiographic data.Makes accurate quantitative calculations. Recognizes and reports changes in patient's echo study. Collaborates with various disciplines to provide appropriate care. Enters patients' charges and credits into computer system. Records clinical information from examinations and identifies studies in folder and log book. Participates in department Quality Assurance initiatives. Maintains departmental statistics. Performs transesophageal procedures, recording for the physician, and obtains instruction and technique for application of informative data collection. Conducts in-service and student instruction on techniques and use of echocardiography as requested. Performs stress echo, applies policy and procedure protocols, and integrates cooperation with procedure nurse to monitor patient and assist physician during testing. Assists in the file management system, instructs application of system to other technicians and physicians for easy access of quality information. Picks up and transports the contrast agent “Definity” for echo studies. Maintains patient prescribed oxygen flow rate from portable tank to wall oxygen and back with echocardiography procedure. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalency required. Must have technical instruction from a licensed school for cardiac ultrasound.Two years hospital/clinical experience. Experience on cardiac ultrasound equipment including purpose and use required. Registered echo cardiographer required or must obtain within six (6) months). National credentialing with ASE recommended agency such as Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).Experience on cardiac ultrasound equipment including purpose and use required.
