Summary :The Echocardiographer performs echocardiographic and/or vascular exams or procedures in various settings under the direction of cardiologists and radiologists.Job Description:KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Applies knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology and uses critical thinking to implement appropriate imaging techniques and procedures to obtain pertinent patient data using established protocols. Adjusts for appropriate patient or circumstance, and identifies potential abnormalities.
Performs adult transthoracic echocardiography with the expectation that there will be assignment to additional areas of the echocardiography lab such as vascular, pediatric, stress, and TEE.
Completes documentation on time and accurately using current technology.
Demonstrates flexibility in learning all equipment and supporting department operations such as supply management, equipment maintenance, and room turnover.
Addresses situations or decisions to ensure patient concerns or needs are met.
QUALIFICATIONS:
RDCS or RCS registered as a cardiac sonographer
Associate’s degree
New graduates must have successfully completed an accredited CAAHEP cardiac ultrasound program and must successfully complete RDCS or RCS certification within the first six months of employment to retain employment as a sonographer within the lab
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or ACLS training
Successful completion of clinical internship
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Climate controlled clinical setting with daily movement throughout the facility
Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers
Frequent sitting with movement throughout work space
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
Use of computers throughout the work day
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
