Through ASRC, we are a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), and we also offer 8(a) options. **Position Summary** RSI is recruiting for an Ecologist who willsupport the Defense-Related Uranium Mines (DRUM) Program by preparing for field work in rugged and remote areas by researching relevant ecological conditions and species expected at mine sites. During field work, map and characterize ecological features including vegetation, ecological units, wildlife presence or habitat, and hazards to wildlife. After field work, ensure all data is uploaded, edited, reviewed, and complete. **Job Title:** Ecologist **Location(s):** Grand Junction, CO **Status:** Full-Time **FLSA:** Exempt **Hiring Range: $** 60,000.00 to $68,000.00 per year.(The anticipated starting salary is based on the posted minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.) This position is required to travel 50% to 75% of the time. **Essential Duties and Responsibilities** + Research the upcoming field area, including vegetation types, wildlife species and habitat, sensitive species and soils, surface water, wetland, and riparian resources, and areas of critical environmental concern. + Conduct work according to approved work plan, ensuring procedures are followed. + Record observations to characterize ecological features, presence or signs of wildlife, and potential hazards to wildlife. + Assist in recording mine features. + Assist in evaluating data, ensuring data, and mapping completeness, reviewing reports, and writing report sections. + Perform technical tasks as may be requested by company management in support of organizational objectives. + Conduct work in compliance with contact, company and other policies and procedures. + Exercise compliance with company and other policies and procedures. + Possess or develop the skills to safely drive off-road in 4-wheel drive conditions, load and unload trailers, trailer towing, and safely operate a utility terrain vehicle (UTV). + Completion of Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course (company paid). + Able to routinely work 12-15 hours per day for several consecutive days when conducting field work. + Other duties as assigned. **Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience** + Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or related field. Experience in lieu of education may be considered. + No years of experience required. 5 years of relevant experience preferred. **Licenses and Certifications** + Valid Driver’s License + No professional certification required. **Required Skills and Abilities** + Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in ecology. + Ability to identify flora and fauna. + Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance. + Ability to organize own work independently to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties. + Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job. + Proficient in Microsoft Office. + Willingness to learn and work safely in a safety conscious work environment. **Clearance and Health Requirements** + Criminal Background Check + Pre-placement Drug Screening + Fit for Duty Test (if applicable) **Essential Physical Requirements** Heavy: Work involves moving objects by exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally or 25 pounds of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.Able to travel on foot across uneven ground for several miles (up to 20 miles) per day in all types of weather. Much of the traveling is up and down slopes.
