ED Tech position evenings/nights 36hrs/week

Job Profile Summary 

​This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders.  In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Support duties: Provides basic care services to patients, but does not have an RN or LPN license.  Positions in this nursing support work under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and may work under the direction of registered nurses depending on their unit.  A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.  An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education.  Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

This position performs and oversees services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital.  Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.  

 

Job Description 

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. High School diploma or equivalent required 

2. Certified patient care, clinical associate, certified nursing assistant or equivalent 

3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. One (1) year of healthcare experience and nursing service experience 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1. Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.   

2. Prepares patient rooms for admission. 

3. Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.  

4. Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction, and discharge plan.  

5. Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.  

6. Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.   

7. Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.  

8. Performs technical tasks, i.e. use of glucometer, lift assisted devices, and collect specimens.    

9. Collects, records and reports accurate patient data in a timely manner   

10. Performs the duties of a Patient Sitter and maintain continuous observation of a patient as outlined in the Sitter guidelines. 

11. Provides clerical support as needed. 

12. Greets visitors in a professional, friendly manner and directs to appropriate destination. 

13. Answers phone in professional and friendly manner and directs caller to appropriate person  

14. Screens all persons requesting access to the department for appropriateness of entry.   Enforces department security policies.  

15. Completes administrative duties regarding patient admission, transfer, and discharges in an organized and timely manner.  

16. Maintains paper components in each patient chart.  

17. Ensure that the patient and family members are attended to in a caring and attentive manner, responding to the needs of patients/family members in a timely manner and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor at all times.  

18. Works cohesively as a member of the patient care team, anticipating the needs of team members.   

19. Establishes and maintains a positive and caring relationship with each patient, family and team member.  

20. Reports variances in accordance with hospital policy   

21. Participates in department meetings and in-service programs on a regular basis. 

 

Physical Requirements:  

1. Lifting up to 30-35 lbs and turning patients.  Prolonged standing and walking.  Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. 

2. Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for performing procedures to operate computer keyboard 

3. Requires ability to see computer screen and reports

1. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel. 

2. The ability to work as a team member, promoting a caring and collegial attitude toward others. 

3. The ability to work under stressful conditions, adapting to the changing pace on the unit, frequent interruptions, emergencies and critically ill patients.  

4. The ability to recognize patient data relative to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.  

5. The ability to organize and prioritize work.
