CNET strives to guide readers through their decision journey on many topics including technology, AI, wellness, broadband, energy and personal finance. CNET is looking for a skilled content editor who can flex into any of these topics. 

As a premium source for news and advice, the Editor role will be responsible for bringing each piece to life -- from idea to publish -- making sure each piece meets CNETs editorial standards. You will focus on developing and researching story ideas, creating writer briefs and outlines, assigning work, managing freelancer deadlines and payments, editing, packaging and publishing each story with fresh headlines and imagery. 

We are looking for someone with experience in different content types such as news, explainers, guides or reviews. The goal is to break down complicated topics and demystify a jargon-heavy industry with a reader-first approach. 

Stories you edit will be fact-based and well-sourced, with an unbiased voice, and written for a broad national audience. The Flex Editor will manage a network of freelancers, edit staff writer work,  collaborate with SEO analysts and use SEO tools to optimize articles.

*This role is in a bargaining unit represented by a labor union, the Writers Guild of America, East.

 What You’ll Do:

Edit freelance and staff writer work Create article briefs with detailed directions for assigned writer Optimize new and existing content using SEO tools Writing and pitching story ideas welcome May coach or mentor junior writers and editors Collaborate with other cross functional team members Update existing stories to optimize audience reach

What We’re Looking For:

Four year degree in journalism, related field or equivalent experience  3+ year experience with professional editing and/or writing  Ability to perform strategic edits and copy edits that meet CNET brand guidelines.  Writing or editing experience with reader-first approach Experience seeking, vetting and interviewing high-profile industry experts  Ability to to explain complicated concepts in a way that anyone can understand  Adaptable to quickly changing dynamics and an ability to think on your feet Self-motivated and comfortable working independently A team player who can collaborate with and take direction from others

Compensation

Cash Compensation Range: $55,000 - 70,000* New York Compensation Range: $55,000 - 84,000* San Francisco Compensation Range: $55,000 - 84,000*
*Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
