Cell Press is looking for an Editor in Chief to lead the journal Joule. Since its launch in 2017, Joule has quickly become established as one of the world's leading forums for cutting edge energy research and insightful analysis and commentary.
About the Role
We are looking for a new Editor in Chief to lead the Cell Press journal Joule. Since its launch in 2017 Joule has quickly become established as one of the world's leading forums for cutting edge energy research and insightful analysis and commentary around more sustainable energy.
The Editor in Chief is a leadership role with responsibility for all editorial aspects of the journal. This includes managing the globally-dispersed in-house editor team, overseeing the evaluation of submissions and ensuring the quality and quantity of articles published in the journal, and formulating, developing, implementing and evaluating a journal strategy and editorial direction that ensures Joule remains topical, distinctive, impactful and agenda-setting. The Editor in Chief also has responsibilities for supporting the development of the broader Cell Press journal portfolio, forming effective partnerships with colleagues in our Operations, Marketing and Strategy teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a premier journal in the energy research arena, and play a senior role in the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio.
Responsibilities
Leading and managing the editorial team, recruiting, mentoring, empowering inspiring team members.
Managing day-to-day operations at the journal
Rigorously evaluating submissions against Joule's demanding requirements for reporting breakthrough energy-first research
Building global networks and commissioning world-leading submissions (including insightful front matter articles)
Shaping and implementing a journal strategy that ensures Joule remains topical, distinctive, impactful, agenda-setting, and the top destination for research in the space
Collaborating with Cell Press colleagues to broaden our footprint and ensure we continue to meet the needs of the research communities we serve
Supporting and leading strategic projects spanning Cell Press
Represent Joule and the wider Cell Press titles in the communities we serve
Collaborate with other editorial teams in Cell Press to understand the vision and scope of the relevant journals to match research with the appropriate vision and scope
Traveling to participate in domestic & international conferences and visit top research institutes to engage with researchers
Requirements
Proven successful senior editorial & research experience relevant to Joule
Proven ability in influencing the energy research community, with an existing strong top-level global network
Possess a passion for sustainable energy research across the scope of Joule
Proven excellent interpersonal, communication and people management skills
Proven people leadership and collaboration skills
