Editor (NYC Hybrid)

**Overview**
HarperCollins seeks an Editor with a passion for platform-driven nonfiction to work with the Dey Street imprint. DEY STREET BOOKS is built on the idea that by publishing celebrated and diverse creatives with precision and innovation, we will deliver singular and successful campaigns.
The Editor will report to the VP/Editorial Director of Dey Street and will acquire and edit a select number of titles while bringing their own fresh ideas to the table. The highly motivated candidate will have a collaborative spirit and work across the division with a creative and dynamic group to publish select titles excellently. Candidate will contribute to the establishment of newly launched HarperPop list with adult titles in collaboration with brands and well-known licensees.
**Responsibilities**
+ Acquire and edit approximately 6-8 titles per year.
+ Leverage market research, social media, retailer insights, and other data to find relevant felt needs, competitive analysis, topics, and authors that can excel in the marketplace.
+ Concept proposals for commercially viable author-driven and proprietary titles.
+ Establishes and maintains strong and extensive agent and author relationships.
+ Read and evaluate submissions and contribute thoughtful feedback to Editorial meetings.
+ Write copy, including title sheets, flap copy, selling copy, and catalog copy; review marketing and publicity materials.
+ Conducts sales research, creates P&Ls, drafts contract requests.
+ Present projects at editorial board, sales conference, and other internal and external meetings selling to internal and external partners on the vision for the project.
+ Successfully shepherd book projects through publication, in collaboration with colleagues across HarperCollins.
+ Offer best in class author care to existing author relationships and grow new author, agent, and corporate connections.
**Qualifications**
+ Minimum 3-5 years’ editorial experience or other relevant publishing experience, required. Acquisitions or agenting experience strongly preferred.
+ Should be well versed and engaged in social media, including emerging trends and voices in areas like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Meta, and more as it relates to authors to acquire.
+ College-level degree or equivalent work experience required.
+ Strong writing and communication skills.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

The salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
