Editorial Director, Brand & External Communications
Position Description:

The Editorial Director role is responsible for the implementation of CGI’s editorial and messaging strategies to advance the verbal principles of CGI’s brand and to oversee the content direction of global external communications. This position is part of the Marketing & Communications department and reports to the Vice-President of Brand and External Communications. The successful candidate will be part of a Center of Expertise that works with global subject matter experts and regional marketers to advance CGI’s brand through content experiences and thought leadership that differentiates CGI in the dynamic IT services market.

This role can be located in any CGI office in the U.S., but the preferred location is Fairfax, VA.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Editorial leadership

• Lead the development and ongoing evolution of the CGI brand’s verbal principles and editorial standards (e.g., style, tone of voice, writing best practices, etc.)
• Provide coaching and mentoring and develop self-service guides and toolkits on writing and message development
• Develop global points of view and value propositions in collaboration with industry / service marketers and subject matter experts across the business
• Provide editorial direction and quality control for strategic global initiatives (e.g., CGI’s annual Voice of Our Clients proprietary research, industry analyst report submissions, AI blog series, etc.)
• Driving innovation in content formats and channels to continuously explore ways to best present CGI's key messages to stakeholders and influencers (e.g., working with key stakeholders to explore new media, interactive content, video scripting, and emerging platforms).
• Lead the content development efforts for the global CGI.com site and collaborate with the digital marketing director to integrate content via content marketing principles (e.g., writing for search intent and aligning with user experience best practices)

Team management and career development

• Lead the brand’s editorial team comprised of six editorial managers
• Oversee and guide the team’s projects and deliverables
• Provide coaching to advance specialized skills; reinforce global performance standards; and support career development and planning
• Foster the community of content contributors across the department to share global content, discuss best practices, and continuously enhance CGI’s verbal standards

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• University degree or equivalent in English, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or a similar discipline

EXPERIENCE

• 15+ years working as a writer/editor or marketing communications manager, preferably within a professional services environment
• Minimum 5 years in a team management position

SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

• Proven team management skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills to engage with leadership and influence / foster alignment with brand principles and best practices
• Extensive writing and editing experience, along with ability to translate complex subjects into consumable messages for business audiences
• Proven project management skills with ability to manage large concurrent projects on tight deadlines
• Ability to develop and lead a network of content contributors across an organization
• Content marketing and operations experience, from content strategy development and execution, through to storytelling, writing with search intent, and improving the user experience

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $110,000 - $235,200.”
