Education and Outreach Director

 The Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention and Education (VCDPE) is seeking candidates for a Diabetes Education and Outreach Director. This position will oversee VCDPE’s grants, technical assistance and training to organizations in Virginia and Nationwide that are interested in providing diabetes education and diabetes prevention evidence-based programs.  Our goal is to improve the quality and accessibility of diabetes education and diabetes prevention programs through collaboration, evidence and innovation.

The VCDPE Education and Outreach Director manages a variety of people and projects which result in the creation of effective educational training experiences for multiple audiences. They oversee the development, delivery, administration, and evaluation of programs and projects  targeting health professionals and nontraditional learners, including community health workers and participants in community medical programs. They demonstrate mastery in their specialty area of diabetes or obesity, evidenced by an advanced degree and significant experience. Education and Outreach Directors are accountable for a sizable program portfolio, and to develop and manage offerings to ensure they fulfill the overall goal or vision of the organization.

The successful candidate will:

Write and oversee grants, cooperative agreements and funding proposals. Champion their implementation and successful completion assuring funded strategies, tasks and performance metrics are met.

Oversee the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) Lifestyle Coach and Advanced Training portfolio, as a CDC National DPP Training Entity.

Work closely through multiple channels to facilitate the creation of programs which respond to market-based regional and state-wide educational needs.

Plan, implement, direct, and grow the programs to generate revenue or participation, by strategically guiding and expanding the programs offered through multiple platforms, including online, on-grounds, or in the community.

Demonstrate effective collaboration with the faculty, administrators and funders which result in the development of high quality, sustainable, and targeted programs.

Exercise responsibility and accountability for program quality, enrollments, and profitability.

Oversee implementation of programs, academic services, and other contractual relationships with regional entities.

Network with regional and national academic and government institutions to establish partnerships for the purpose of developing and leveraging programs and activities.

Oversee marketing and promotional campaigns to reach revenue and enrollment targets.

Develop and implement outreach evaluation and assessment plan by identifying educational outcome indicators, collecting data, and analyzing and communicating results and findings.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's degree or a demonstrated mastery in their specialty area normally signified by significant equivalent experience.
Experience:

·       Clinician (Pharm D, RD, RN, NP, PA)

·       At least five  years of experience in diabetes and/or obesity

·       2+ years managerial experience

·       3+ years experience in medical and health education

Preferred  Experience

·       PhD or experience with grant writing and implementation

·       2+ in program management (project workflow and budgets)

·       2+ years  in public health

·       2+ years with the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP)

·       2+ years with the Diabetes Self-Management, Education and Support (DSMES) program

·       Master Trainer of the National DPP

Licensure: CDCES, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
