Education Assistant - The Farm at Trinity Health AA
**Employment Type:** Part time **Shift:** **Description:** Trinity Health believes that food is medicine. We live that mission through our hospital-based farm programs at our Ypsilanti and Pontiac locations. The Farm at Trinity Health is a regional program that connects thousands of people annually to the healing power of cultivating and eating nutritious, local food. **Do you love working with youth and adults outside? Are you excited to grow a healthier community?** We’re looking for an energetic nature-lover to help us run educational programs April through October. Our education programs foster joy and discovery at the intersection of health, agriculture, and sustainability. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to partner with the Education Coordinator to deliver school field trip activities and manage students moving through The Farm. They will assist Education Staff in delivery, set up, and cleanup of summer camps and evening workshops. We seek individual who can share their enthusiasm and energy with folks who are excited to learn about plants, food, and health. This is a great opportunity for a person with a flexible schedule; hours will vary week to week. Up to 300 hours in 2024. **REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE** **Education:** High school diploma **Experience:** Experience with delivering educational programming to youth preferred. Experience with public speaking preferred. Experience with gardening, farming, plants, and/or outdoor educational spaces preferred. **Additional requirements** : Some lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, and other physical activity outside. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES** + Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies of Trinity Health. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Works with Education Coordinator deliver Farm field trip programs, including: + Delivers learning standards-based hands-on activities to fifth graders and summer camp students. + Manages student behavior as needed using The Farm’s practices. + Facilitates activities with enthusiasm, thoroughness, and a welcoming attitude. + Communicates clearly with Education Coordinator regarding successes and challenges in delivery, participation, and understanding of programs. + Assists with set-up and clean-up of education activities. + Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. **REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES** Strong interpersonal skills to work with school youth and teachers with an engaging, positive demeanor. Comfort in outdoor settings. Confidence in public speaking to groups.
