Position Summary

Develops and provides services related to the orientation, continuing education, and assessment of clinical staff and facilitates evidenced-based practice within the organization. Collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care. Ensures adherence to Joint Commission standards and all related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer

 

Responsibilities of the Position

Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curricula.

Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.

Provides educational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established healthcare setting.

Assists patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.

Initiates skills development programs within the parameters of established care models; monitors trends and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards and parameters.

Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff.

Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Incorporate evidence-based research into educational plans, patient treatment plans, and nursing practices.

Serve as a mentor to nurses and identify growth opportunities and educational needs for practicing nurses.

Promote critical thinking among nurses and show commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.

Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.

Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation and education activities.

Will evaluate patient charts and complete chart audits as needed.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

Associate's Degree in Nursing or Successful completion of a Nursing Diploma Program.

North Carolina Registered Nurse License or compact state licensure. Bachelors (BSN) or Master's (MSN) in Nursing is strongly preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification are required.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of protocol, procedures, and standards within area of nursing expertise.

Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to staff.

Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

Ability to assess educational needs and design and develop responsible curricula.

Working knowledge of the use of established care models in the development of education programs.

Technical leadership skills within area of expertise.

Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.

Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

 

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience.

Teaching and experience is preferred.
