The Professional Development Education Nurse Specialist develops tools, theories, skills, and knowledge to advance the practice of the learner based on the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Scope and Standards. The primary outcomes of nursing professional development practice include: learning, change, professional role competence and growth.

Responsibilities

Assesses and analyzes the education needs of all levels of nursing and other patient care staff in collaboration with patient care leadership and makes recommendations regarding priority programming.

 

Interprets and provides standards for educational programming which foster quality, state of the art educational methods, process, and outcomes.

 

Designs instructional systems and acts as a consultant to nursing and other patient care services to meet competency needs, age-appropriate patient/family care needs, and other learning needs related to functioning within their job descriptions of all levels of nursing staff, patient care services personnel, and other groups as requested.

 

Instructs others to perform duties within the framework of the standards, policies and procedures set forth by Children's Hospital and the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, JCAHO, and other professional practice standards.

 

Coordinates and manages educational programs and courses, assuring adherence to quality measures; enables others to gain these skills.

 

Teaches and presents educational classes, both formal and informal, in an effective manner and facilitates others to teach competently.

 

Develops and utilizes appropriate evaluation systems to determine the effectiveness of educational activities and analyzes for use in decision making.

 

Provides information linkage to nursing, other patient care services staff and affiliating faculty related to resources, educational techniques, and application of theory into practice.

 

Promotes patient-focused outcomes and flexibility in a changing workplace through collaboration with all disciplines, group problem solving, cross training, information sharing, and educational consultancy to meet common educational needs.

Qualifications

Education: MS/MSN in nursing education or related field required.

 

Licensure: RN, Ohio.

 

Certifications: Preferred Certification in Nursing Professional Development. Must have or obtain within 3 years Nursing Professional Development (NPD) certification or equivalent.

 

Skills: Competency in nursing clinical practice and professional development applicable to unit/area assigned.

 

Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience as an RN, required. Pediatric experience, preferred.

 

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to see, hear, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.
