Education Specialist- Job Description
The Education Specialist, along with the Program Director and Assistant Site Director and Education Director is responsible for coordinating educational activities and developing curriculum and reviewing lesson plans. Education Specialists will assist the Activity Instructors, group leaders in program activities and assure that the homework help component for the program runs effectively and smoothly. The Education Specialist also provides training for staff. Instruction and activities designed to promote subject mastery, develop grade-level competencies, and teach study skills. The Education Specialist will also be responsible for creating a safe and positive environment, to provide opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic / personal growth. The Educational Specialist will also assist in the reviewing, writing and creation of lesson plans. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading groups of assigned participants in a variety of educational enhancement activities in the areas of Career, work, literacy, and leadership which will teach skills and help to improve overall personal and academic performance. The Education Specialist works 9-hours per week, supporting the teaching staff in developing strong lessons and integrating DYCD frameworks for Literacy, Leadership, and STEM. Hourly Rate $45.00
Key Essential Functions:
Supports the implementation of program curriculum and work with program staff to develop sequential learning goals and objectives for all activities
Ensures the integration of literacy and STEM-based learning and enrichment through sequenced, curriculum-based programming
Provide coaching and modelling and ensures that implementation of program activities aligns with demonstrated best practices
Facilitates professional development trainings and workshops for frontline staff
Researches best practices in afterschool programming and brings new ideas to program staff
Identifies and develops supplementary resources to support students' learning and interests
Meet development and academic standards for instruction.
tutoring, mentoring and coaching demonstrate competence in analyzing students' needs.
Assist participants in actively achieving an increased comprehension and retention of specific subject material, and improved academic skill in designated areas.
Help participants develop necessary skills for academic success.
Actively participate in PD training sessions, designated meetings, and special events, as appropriate.
Attends and Assist in organization of required meetings and staff development workshops.
Requirements:
Master's Degree in education or other related area preferred. Bachelors required.or a related field Preferred
Minimum of two years' teaching experience
Knowledge of NYS common core learning standards
Experience in developing and reviewing STEM curriculum, lesson plans, experience coaching teachers and/or facilitators preferred in school day or afterschool setting.
Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with children from diverse background Possess an understanding and knowledge of public school functions, Common Core, and specific knowledge in age-appropriate teachings and curriculum.
General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred.
Knowledge of DYCD, DOE, and DOH mandates
