Job Summary: The Educator-CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) demonstrates advanced level of nursing practice and is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH), an academic medical center that is a designated level one trauma center serving six counties. Develops and maintains a collaborative, credible and trusting working relationship with licensed independent practitioners, multidisciplinary healthcare team members, and leadership to build better healthcare and deliver cutting-edge, comprehensive medical care and education to staff, patients, families, and community when applicable. Collaborates with clinical leadership and serves as a strategic advisor for research, clinical pathways, practice standards and operations to improve patient outcomes through nursing practice. Leads multidisciplinary patient care rounds to influence patient satisfaction ratings, meet core measures, assess patients' conditions, appropriateness of care, outcomes of nursing interventions, and progress towards achieving goals and plans for care transition. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master's degree in Nursing- Clinical Nurse Specialist required. Minimum two years of experience required in specialty area.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have in-depth knowledge of advanced practice nursing, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, principles of adult education, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards, medical staff structure, healthcare law, finance, peer review and legal aspects of care. Able to demonstrate excellence in bedside practice and nursing professionalism; apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area(s) of specialty.; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities.: Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; compose written material; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) and a Clinical Nurse Specialists license required. National certification in area of specialty preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification as required in the Department Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during orientation process.
