EDUCATOR/REGISTERED NURSE

Mountain View Hospital is looking for an Educator/Registered Nurse to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:       

Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance. This position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities. Educator works collaboratively with the Unit-specific educators, department manager, clinical team lead, the VP of Surgical Services, DON, and all of the compliance team to support in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating educational activities for all PeriOp staff; specifically focusing on nursing and clinical aspects. This includes assisting with monitoring for general, clinical, and nursing orientation, professional development including in-services and continuing education. Overseeing competency programs including the mentoring program as directed by the Mountain View organization. The roles of the educator include: educator, facilitator, change agent, collaborator, advisor, mentor, consultant, researcher, and leader.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Promotes the department(s) and its services into the organization’s primary mission, including any developments and changes to the PeriOp dept.
2. Coordinates and integrates services within the department(s) and with other departments.
3. Reviews policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
4. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care with current guidelines on staffing ratios and acuity levels.
5. Participates in quality improvement programs used in the department.
6. Provides scheduling for orientation, in-service education, training and continuing education of all persons in the department.
7. Provides daily feedback as necessary to individual staff members regarding their performance. Reports problems with staff members to the PeriOp Manager.
8. Participates in the interviewing and hiring of employees.
9. Participates in staff and charge nurse meetings and department annual skills.
10. Evaluate the performance of staff: Nurses and nursing assistants while having the ability to provide ongoing feedback, mentoring, and coaching. Provides feedback at 30-, 60-, and 90-day evaluations to staff.
11. Ensures staff receives proper orientation prior to assuming patient care responsibilities.
12. Collect all employee competency sheets and turn them into Education.
13. Meets with orienteers regularly to monitor new employee and their progress.
14. Demonstrates an ability to identify and resolve problems. Uses initiative and good judgement to reach quality decisions.
15. Maintains an effective rapport with patients, visitors, physicians, and directors.
16. Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information.
17. Maintains assigned equipment, reports, malfunction, recall documentation and orders services as necessary.
18. Participates in performance improvement/performance evaluation activities, including data collection, development of indicators, and evaluation criteria.
19. Assists in documentation and data collection for occurrence reports and patient complaints processes.
20. Chart audits and quarterly goal planning and evaluation for the department.
21. Assists with teaching unit-based educators as well as staff how to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate unit-specific training to insure safe patient care.
22. Collaborates with the management and unit-specific educators when planning training that affects their clinics/department and reports completion of and attendance of these activities.
23. Coordinate clinical staff requirements and ensure that all staff are current in their licensure and education, including but not limited to; annual education courses, Nurse Residency program, BLS, ACLS, PALS.
24. Facilitates the unit educators with their coordination of competency assessment programs including the mentoring program, new hire and annual competencies and collaborates with them to make sure that he/she is informed of new nursing
mentorships and changes in unit-specific competency paperwork.
25. Fosters effective collegial relationships with other educators, charge nurses & mentors as well as staff.
26. Collects data for and assists in the preparation of reports as required and/or requested.
27. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates education content in response to identified knowledge deficits within the organization. (Monthly Project Improvement)
28. Collaborates with Manager, Clinical Team Lead, Compliance department, and unitbased educators to implement, communicate, educate, and evaluate standards of care.
29. Serves as a consultant for educational activities within the PeriOp Dept.
30. Demonstrates effective proactive situational leadership while working within the framework of Mountain View’s mission, vision, and values by actively supporting new programs and changes in the organization
31. Acts as Coordinator and schedules committee meetings, oversees paperwork, becomes the expert of processes and requirements of nursing education needs.
32. Develops, updates, and supports the policies and procedures in Policy Stat.
33. Participates in Quality Assurance Committee/Compliance Department team meeting/Nurse Leader Meeting and any other meeting or committee as a resource for education for PeriOp, upon Manager request.
34. Assists management with education conference planning and coordination for PeriOp. Which conferences would be beneficial to the units, who will attend, and how often attendance would be needed.
35. Fulfills coordination of PeriOp educational needs.
36. Works at least one shift per schedule.
37. Performs other tasks as assigned.
